View Full Version : Nix to kill mites?
Does that work?
Do I spray and rinse, or leave it on? Can I use it on the snake?
If so, what ratio? 1:1?
Thanks!

3 teaspoons of nix to 1 spray bottle of water should be fine... Remove the water bowl and spray the cage down and the animal and replace the water bowl when the cage is dry... spray it like you would a regular misting...

no rinse is needed
How big is one spray bottle? I have 3 sizes :]
Do I SOAK the tank, or jsut lightly spray everything?
What about the snake's eyes?
Thanks!!
Zoe
I use one bottle of nix to 4L of distiled water. Mix the crap out of it. Store the left over nix in a cool dark place and it will keep for a year +/- a few days.

do as jeff said....
3 teaspoons to 1 liter....
Spray every part of the enclosure and snake down thouroughly, meaning u can drench it!
Some ppl say once a week, or even once every two weeks.
I and others spray it every day.
Dont spray it around lizards, etc....

I think it's a good idea to rinse afterwards, not a big thorough rinse, but you don't want your snake inhaling too many pyrethmins <sp?>, it's pretty toxic stuff. The flea powders and flea shampoos for cats and dogs have been known to actually kill the animals, so it's not a chemical you want to have hanging around too much, especially around babies.

if you rinse, dont rinse right away at least wait for the Nix to dry and do its thing.
I wouldn't rinse. There haven't been any reports of negative effects from using Nix in the concentration of 1 bottle (2oz) to 1 gallon of water and not rinsing. I would then worry about the effectiveness of the treatment if it were rinsed....

i agree... just put about 3 teaspoons into a 750ml or 1 litre spray bottle and shake it up untill the nix cant be seen and that bottle will probably last you like 3 years :P plus you still have like 3 quarters of the bottle of nix. spray and dont rinse.
I like Provent-a-Mite. All I can say is it works as long as you follow the directions to the letter.
