HELPPPPPPPP....................
I came home this morning to find Slim stuck to the outside of his hide on the cool side. I used a piece of tape to hold the sides together and he decided to try and get out of a lil tiny crack in the corner of it. He must of struggled all night because when i found him everything was a mess inside. So i took him out and soaked him in some warm water and attempted to peel the tape that was stuck to him off. It took a lil while but i eventually got it off. But right now he has some open cuts so im wondering what i need to put on it to make it heel. He basically pulled his skin off from struggling to get the tape off. LIke i said i soaked him for a while now im just wondering what else to do. Any info would be greatly appreciated, IVe def learned for now on no tape inside his home!!!!!!

On the "Pet Guys Show" they said, just to put a little bit of polisporn on the cuts.

Are the cuts closed up or do some of the cuts require stiches?

Never had this happen, but I've often heard people say they use Neosporin - but I've also heard to stay away from Neosporin Plus...I think because it has some kind of painkiller or something. Sorry, I can't exactly remember but hopefully someone else will jump on soon. Yeah, tape or glue should be nowhere near them. Many have learned the hard way. I hope Slim will be okay - and you too!

Keep him on clean paper towels and put polysporin on the wounds once or twice daily. Keep a close eye on him for infection.

Also, get a new enclosure. I'm sure that anything that needs to be kept together with tape is NOT sufficient for housing a snake.

They dont require stiches but its kind of like a open flesh wound. He just kept pulling and it opened up his skin a little bit. No blood

Is it ok to use neosporin on the wound?? Thats the only thing i have available right now.??

polysporin and neosporin are both antibiotic ointment products made by Pfizer

neosporin is triple antibiotic ointment containing bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin

polysporin contains bacitracin and polymyxin

HOw many days should i apply the neosporin for?? And how many days should i wait to feed him again since he's injured??

NEVER use tape in an enclosure. Now you know why. Don't use the Polysporin paste, use the clear stuff. Every second day until it scabs, and then some.

A call to a qualified vet might not hurt eaither, providing that the vet HAS dealt with herps.

This is really odd. How many times in the last 6 months has this tape issue come up? Like 10? 20 maybe? Bizarre. I have never seen so many tape mishaps. I always thought is was RULE #1 to NEVER use tape. Maybe we should be advertising this somewhere, because clearly the message is not getting out there to prevent these kinds of things.

Poor snake.

What's done is done and now he knows and knows what to do. So let's not turn this into a flame fest.

I wasn't flaming anyone, and I didn't even address that dude in any way shape or form.

Making an TRUE observation is no where near a flame. I don't see how it can be ethically right to tip-toe around an issue that seems to come up every week when clearly the info needs to be more in people's faces. So everytime someone does something wrong husbandry-wise we just say "what's done is done" and move on, all the while pet snakes are getting injured?

Maybe we should have a page with the Top 10 Rules of Snakekeeping on it, because this whole tape issue was BASIC stuff when I started out 12 years ago. I'm not blaming a soul, but it really saddens me that its still an issue over a decade later. Something went wrong.

And I'm still befuddled how this is becoming a "flame fest"? LOL.

It's not and my comments were in general. If you or anyone else had actually flammed this person a PM would have been sent.

Maybe we should have a page with the Top 10 Rules of Snakekeeping on it,
We did do something like this last year, remember? I started a post that was called something like, " Top ten things I wish I knew than that I know now." or " Top ten things new keepers should know." Some of it was stuff like don't stick your pet store brand heat pad to the bottom of a glass tank, that sort of stuff.
Maybe we need to find it and get it going again.
Cheers,
Trevor

Definitely CHewie. And make it a sticky thread or even a site feature. For sure.
