I prefer not to use dog/cat food. I find the best protein comes from fish food, the flaked stuff. Another great alternative is the box turtle and tortoise dry foods. Insects gobble it up like crazy and the ingredients are far better than dog/cat food. I have also used ground corn mixed in small amounts with the fish and turtle foods. All I know is my leos are healthy and have great appetites!:D

I have never had problems using it. No odors either. I give crickets one dish with dry food and one with the veggies (as it should be at all times) and mealies get thinly sliced veggies (carrot, apple and cucumber) on top. It is very important to change your veggies every day to prevent anything from going foul, which is why most people experience bad smells. I have had cricket bins for over 5 years now, 1000+ in each an no problems, and the mealies in bins of 2000-4000 with no problems either.
