Well i took my crestie out today when I was cleaning his cage, he was just crawling around on my bed and when i was done I went to pick him up and return him to the cage when he dropped his tail. So my questions are, will this stress him out? Will he continue to live normally? Should I expect him to eat right away(tonight)? Will I have to seperate him from his tank mate? What should I do? He looks like a litttle dog running around lol, Im so miserable right now, Thanx for your advice

Dont be so worried :) In the wild a majority of cresties lose their tails. Im not sure if he will eat or not but try to keep the wound clean so it can heal properly.

not to worry, there will be no ill effects. just keep the tank clean while it heals. Like CDN said, most wild cresties lose their tails
and it has been suggested that losing the tail might actually be a survival advantage (From Racodactylus, Captive care and Breeding of New Caledonian Prehensile Tail Geckos, de Vosjoli P., Fast T., and Repashdy A. ,2003) sorry if the reference is a little off, I am citing by memory

i would move him onto a substrate such as newspaper, paper towel, astroturf, ect. temporarily, so that nothing could get stuck in the wound and infect it.

I dont use substrate in their tank yet, how long does it take to heal?
