Hey everyone, Im interested in these geckos but I would like to read more about them. I have read 2 or 3 caresheets on the net but I was wondering if anyone could recommend some other caresheets or possibly some books/magazines.
Thanks

They seem simple enough to keep from what I have read. Whats with the experienced keeper only label? Is there any breeders within Ontario?
Thanks
i have just started breeding them...i think they are alot easier than people make them out to be. but there aren't very many uroplatus breeders in general

Hey Steve
Henkeli aren't particularly difficult to keep or breed. I think when people label them for experienced keepers they are refering to the temp and humidity requirements of the Genus. Temps are lower then what people normally perceive as being good for reptiles, so I think a lot of first time keepers tend to cook them. Although, henkeli are more tolerant and forgiving of "higher" temps then some of the smaller species in the genus, they can still be pretty easy to stress out. If you go to the GGA website you can pick up some of the back issues of Gekko, I know there are some articles about Uroplatus in those. I've also heard that a certain geckophile from the maritimes will have a book on the Genus published fairly soon. He may also have some cb available. Drop me an e-mail if you 'd like his e-mail address to contact him, or if you want to chat about the genus. Uroplatus pretty much run a close tie with Rhacs as my favorite geckos! :D
uog11- Good luck with your breeding project. We definitely need to establish more breeding successes with these guys before Madagascar completely closes the borders.

Since Uroplatus in general are endangered/threatened/at risk, they're classified as being for experienced keepers who have a better chance of keeping them alive long term and breeding success. Even though they're all fantastic species, the emphasis is towards captive breeding to save them from extinction.

Scotty, that book sounds fantastic but unfortunately I cant afford that right now due to the school year coming up and maintenence of my animals right now but I will contact you when I do have some extra money.
Hilde, thats a very interesting point. Hopefully these amazing geckos can benefit from captive breeding programs.
