Hi everyone,
I recently acquired a lovely female Ball Python... she's about 540g... It was apparently owned by somebody who purchased her from the local pet shop (i.e. import, CH) and was his only pet snake... The very bad scar on top of her head sort of testifies to that I guess... Anyways, I was told by the seller she was much brighter than your average Ball Python. I did see a picture of her before driving over to pick her up, and she was pictured with a chocolaty ball so I figured she's going to be nice, but no more than that.. ends up she's almost as bright as my pastel! Her eyes are not as light as my pastel, but not far from it... as with many Ball Pythons, getting pictures that truely represent her color was difficult, but at least it gives some idea...
I think it will boil down to a high-yellow or high-gold female which will be a fantastic match up with my pastel for 2005-2006, but wanted some opinions on her anyways... I have 10 pictures of her in my gallery, please have a look and let me know what you think!

She's a very nice, high gold normal :)
She actually looks a lot like my "Classic Jungle-ish" girl:

Nice looking normal ball. She's not all that high-gold IMO but a beautiful specimen nonetheless.

yup, you are very correct.. they look very similar.. however, yours has that "spot nose" thing going.. apparently, Collette Sutherland proved some of hers to be genetic.. that must of been a "just for the fun of it" dinking project I guess ;)
Thanks for the comments and sharing pictures of yours!

Mykee, you're supposed to say that's it the most amazing ball python you've ever seen and that it's worth about 100K US... :D
I guess I had ugly normals up until now because none of mine are even close to this little girl... :( It's hard to make my wife understand that the new snake is worth about $150 and the pastel is worth... well, let's say a lot more since I purchased him at almost 1500g ;) But to her, she likes the little girl better! The new female should be great for the pastel project though... shouldn't better looking females produce better looking pastels?
Thanks for your opinion,
Bristen.

Well, I paid $100 for mine from the Sutherlands :p Maybe they accidentally sent me one of her 'genetic' ones!! :D

Bristen I think it is a very very nice higher than usual gold normal ball. Personally I don't see any resemblance between it and a Jungle. Jungles have a distinct pattern and head markings.
Regardless it is one of the nicest balls I've ever seen period! It is going to be great in an albino project.
Congrats,
Trevor
PS
I just hope you didn't pay too much for her.
She's a very pretty normal! She almost looks like one of my girls:

Yup, just a VERY nice normal. I was also going to suggest putting her in an albino project. The yellow will come through soooo nicely. :)

oh, I never though it was a pastel... it really does not look like any pastel I've ever seen anyways... it's just that the colors were intense.. almost as bright as the pastel, but a little more "dirty-ed" by black speckling and stuff... but yes, I agree with you, markings are not the typical pastel markings that we are used to.
With regards to price, she was what a normal yearling pet shop animal should cost.. probably a tad too much, but nothing unreasonable :-)
Thanks,
Bristen.

hmmm... the second person to recommend to throw her at the albino project.. the problem with that is that I don't have an albino right now.. I was going to try and skip the 50% possible hets if at all possible.. I suppose, it's not impossible that I could hatch a male and it be ready to breed before this female reaches breedable size... we'll see how it goes, but your (and Trevor's) suggestion have been noted.. makes sense... maybe not her first breeding year, but eventually she would be a good candidate for the albino project, no doubt..
Thanks for your comments!

I didn't say Pastel, I said Jungle. As in Classic Jungle not Pastel Jungle. Speaking of which I see the name Jungle Pastel or Pastel Jungle what ever it was seems to have been droped in the market place for the shorter simpler Pastel. I'm all for that.
Cheers,
Trevor

oups! sorry about that, I misread that phrase it appears... yes, I agree with you that it does not really look like a classic jungle either... and with regards to the pastel name, I'd much rather see the jungle part drop also.. no need for it :)

Bristen.
