The Red Deer Reptile Show and Sale is getting closer!

There is unlimited tables and 10,000+ sq feet to fill. I can get more if needed. The show is in the same place as last year, which is the Parkland Pavilion at the Westerner Park 4847A-19 Street. http://www.westerner.ab.ca/info.htm

The BBQ will follow on Saturday after the show. It is free for all people with tables and their help. The kids are welcome as well since the BBQ is at the largest park in Red Deer which is also getting a make over right now. Last year there were over 80 tables booked and it grows every year.

Once again we will have the 3 major radio stations advertising the show, newspaper coverage and the TV crews will be there as well. Red Deer is a great location for a show, right in the middle of Edmonton and Calgary, 1-11/2hrs either way. Tons of parking as well. Tables are $30 ea and no limits, power and chairs are included in the price. Last year we gave a DVD/VCR combo away for a vendor for just showing up. We still need to figure out what to do this year, but it will be something good as always. Mice & Things will also pay for a hotel room with hot tub for the person that travels the furthest for the reptile show. It will be for 2 nights.

Tim has done up a web site for Red Deer show, there are pictures from last years show. Thanks Tim.

O.K.....

Since this is Walters show, and Walter is our very good friend - we are pulling out some big guns for the big show.

We'll bring a blackheaded python, a diamond python, one of the big retics (either the 18.5' tiger or Pandora - 19.5' beautiful classic pattern, a big snapping turtle, couple lizards, turtles / tortoises, dwarf caimen, boas, pythons, colubrids and some museum artifacts.

Pictures with the blackhead or diamond will only be available to good friends and people who have paid for snakes from our webpage, before hand, for delivery to the show. Check our for sale page on our website for more info.

It is my favorite show out west, and I think this year it will be the biggest Canadian show so far. If not the biggest, it will surely be the best.

Be sure to come by and say hi to Myself, Sheila, Katt, Vanan or Jim (jwsporty).

We'll also all be ready to party after the show for anyone interested in social gatherings.

Finally got my registration in to Walter this weekend and I will be there for sure - finally with a display table instead of just to buy!

Will have HONDOS on display - the ghosts and the tangerine albino but doubt the babies from this year (still eggs - but I am counting them before they hatch) will be well enough started by then to bring along. Will have a few others just to show variety.

Will have creamsicle babies for sale and a few older corn pairs, lots of variety in corns to display and maybe a few kings.

Really looking forward to this show - it is great for the amount of space available - nothing crowded here!

WOW.......that list is great.

I know a few people from that list for years and others I recently been in touch with, would be great to go and just meet everyone if I could, but the South is calling me :)

I see a few boa dealers there wish I knew what was available, maybe order something and get you to pick up, but who has boas or pythons I want......hmmmmm.

I am thinking:

Canadian Captive Bred
Henry Piorun
Scales Zoo
Invictus Exotics

It is going to be a great show! Looking forward to it all, and hoping to be there with Ryan - not playing midwife to a Great Dane. Shadow is due to have puppies just before the show. We are also still waiting on a couple clutches of eggs to be laid - the tiger rat snakes, and my favorite python. Hopefully these eggs will be tucked into the incubator by the time we are ready to leave for the show.

Stop by and say hi - hope to see you there

Hi everyone,

Well I’m coming out west with some of my dragons for sure. But now I’m confused! I’m going to attend the Calgary show because everyone has been saying that that’s the biggest show out west. I can’t make it to two shows, coming from Ottawa will cost me way to much. So my question is, witch show is the biggest?

Scales Zoo
08-09-04, 07:36 PM
Ooohhh, someone asked the big question.....

There are differing opinions from some on the answer to that question. Both this years Red Deer show and this falls TARAS show are looking to be the biggest yet. They are both big.

Now, you didn't ask which one was better....

Here is an updated vendor list. If you don't see your name here contact me and I will get it on as soon as I can. We are over 95 tables booked and over 40 vendors now, This is gearing up to be one of the largest show done in Canada. Not bad for only the 4th year. If anyone has any question please contact me at walter@miceandthings.ca I know there are lots of others out there that are undecided if they can make it or not. I will not run out of room. I have the option of getting more space and tables at the last moment if needed. I am doing advertising on 3 different radio stations, 3 different papers that make it out to over 230,000 homes in central Alberta. I have also sent out an invitation to over 50 pet stores in Alberta to attend the show and buy stuff for their stores. If this all works out there will be many records broken this year.

Both shows are looking to be the biggest ever. To say which one will be bigger is a crapshoot at best. If you would like to know which one is bigger, I encourage you to check both and come to your own conclusion. The shows change every year. I am definitely looking forward to going to both shows and meeting some old friends and hope to meet some new ones. Soo you all there.

How long would it take from victoria b.c to to the show by bus and plane?

DNA Reptiles
08-16-04, 01:39 PM
You should look out for cheap seat sales on Westjet for example. Fly to Calgary and get the bus to Red Deer, or fly to Edmonton and get the bus to Red Deer. I believe Red Deer is midway between Calgary and Edmonton.
Walter is the guy to ask - he knows everything!!!....Andrea.

Greg West
08-16-04, 01:52 PM
Red Deer is midway to Calgary and Edmonton. Vancouver by plane to Calgary is 1 1/2 hr flight. Not sure what it would be by bus, but it would take a while.

Greg

Invictus
08-16-04, 02:58 PM
Actually, RD is closer to Edmonton than Calgary... it's 1.5 hours from Calgary to RD... 1 hour from Edmonton. Which I guess really only makes a difference if you're WALKING, lol

WALTER
08-16-04, 06:29 PM
Well thank you Andrea but really I don't know everything, close but not quite, lol.
I travel that damn road enough between Red Deer, Edm and Calgary. So here are the numbers
Red Deer to Edmonton is 154.34km or 95.9 miles
Red Deer to Calgary is 144.97km or 90.08 miles. So very close and very boring drive either way.

By Grey hound it will be a good day travel right to Red Deer. Here is a link.
http://www.greyhound.ca/scripts/en/FareFinder/step3.asp

By West Jet will get you to Calgary then you would have to get a ride or rent a car. Another link.

I took the bus from Medicine Hat to Vancouver, took 20 hrs. If you took the ferry to Vancouver Greyhound terminal to Red Deer, I imagine,it would take 25 hrs or so. Pretty cheap if you buy two weeks in advance.

WALTER
08-19-04, 12:42 AM
Ok where to start, there are many updates to add to the show other then the vendor list this time.

Let's start with the BBQ. All the burgers are homemade and the salads. Bonnie has been busy making the burgers and will be doing the salads later on. I will use clean containers this year since Greg was bothered by this, lol. The good thing is I thaw tested the hamburger meat about 7 times and it is good till then anything after 7 times it starts to change color and the flies don't hang around anymore, but don't worry about the containers.

The prize for one of the vendors is going to be a Autostart GS-1422 Automatic Transmission Multi-channel remote car starter. With 2 key chain remotes. The winner however will have to get it installed. If you are from the area you can get it upgraded to Manual Transmission if you like. Just pay the difference. This is a $100 value for just showing up as a vendor. I would like to thank Vibe Car Audio for this prize.

This next one should make everyone happy. I got a ATM Machine for the show. It will be in the same room right by the main doors. This is going to be so handy for people wanting to buy stuff.

The person who one the free Jacuzzi Room was Jim from Capital Colubrids. He gets a two night stay paid for.

I know there is more to say just way to tiered to think right now. I will post more when I can remember.

This may sound stupid, I had the information, but lost it... so, what exact time is the show open? and what is the exact address? How much does it cost to get in? And I think that's it... reply soon!

Thanks

Hello all, I'm so pumped about this show. This will be my first reptile show and i wish I hadn't found out about till this week. I've know for a couple months now and I'm just itching to go. Thanks Walter! I'm sure this will be an experience I wont forget. I will be picking up a JCP, some rats and a temp gun if I can find one there. So bring some nice JCPs everyone and Walter, don't forget the rats! 3 more sleeps!! I'm pumped! Later eveyone.

I got a ATM Machine for the show.

*curses under breath*

Just like those sickos that put ATMs in casinos... ;)

I don't know if anyone noticed this, but this show was listed in the 'Events' section of the latest REPTILES. I thought that was kinda cool, they don't usually mention Canadian shows...

Ok what can I say but WOW. and a whole bunch of words that will get edited out anyway.

Hey Mike this feels like my first show. Can actually say I might have a few butterflies over this one.

Did 2 radio interviews today and they went great!. Had a news paper call a little later on and they are going to run a story that will be out first thing Sat morning. 1 more interview to do tomorrow. All the new radio adds sound great! The stations are all talking about it. The news paper add that I took out also looks great. I will have that at the show for people to see.

The doors open at 10am both days and the show runs till 5pm unless it is really busy I will keep it open a bit longer. Address is 4847a - 19st. Very easy to find. South end of Red Deer 1 block off Hwy 2.

We've been having one hell of a week - but the Show will go on, we will not pull a deano!

I'm more pumped about this show than any other event so far. I've also got the butterflies thing going on, but the Leader troupe is set to depart 7:00 am Friday morning. I've got a busy 36 hours.

Thanks Walter! You put on a great show. My first reptile show was a blast. My girlfriend said I looked like a kid in a candy store. I was the kid in the yellow shirt who tried to get in early and then bought rats off you later in the day on saturday. Sorry Walter, everyone was doing it lol. I picked up a wicked striped IJCP from Kyle Kunimoto. I'm very happy with it, I will try to get pics soon and post em in the carpet forum. Picked up a ton of frozen pets, a temp gun and a Red Diamond pit viper. Thanks again Walter. I can't wait for the Fall Taras show, what to get, what to get.

Mike

PS - did i mention that the red diamond rattler was stuffed?
