leo morh's /blazin blizards

:eek: okay i've read some posts here and other places and when describing on how to get a morph like for example blizard with red eyes you cross albino with a blizard[i think]
but then they list the percentage of babies like 1 albino 2 hey blizards 2 het albinos[this is just an example] ect...
well can you tell by lookin witch are het albinos and which are normals and so on
i've never breed my leo's but would like to try next year and arrgh it all looks so confusing not that i'm that concerned with the morphs but if i can create one nicer one i would

Well with the blizzard and albino genes your talking simple recessives. If you bred a albino male to a blizzard female and they were not hetrozygous for another trait all your offspring would be normal looking. They would look like normals but would be double hets for albino blizzard. Then if you bred those back to each other I think the probability is like 1 in 16 that you would hatch a Blazing Blizzard. You would also hatch albinos and blizzards that were hets for the opposite trait. This has already been done with two traits patternless and albino. The key is understanding the hetrozygous deal and phenotypes and genotypes. Phenotype means the animals outward appearance( How the animal actually looks). Genotype is the characteristics or genes the animal may be carrying. And with hets that is not displayed. So you could have a leopard gecko that looks like a normal but carries the gene for albino. That animal would be a het albino. Hope this helps you out. If you have more questions I can try to help you out.:grab:

but what im really getting at and i think the answer is going to be no
is if you got a set of 16 eggs and they all hatch could you tell by lookin at them who is het and who is normal
as for the blazing blizard that was just an example i am no where near that stage to try to attempt to create one of them

The answer is no. On simple ressive traits there is no way to tell if they are hets. With some luck maybe someday. And when anybody talks about genetics with the 1/16 would be this"trait." Those are just the odds. They do not always work that way. Consider that there have only been approx. 8 blazzing blizards hatched by Jay from hundreds of eggs. It is always the hardest part to get double ressive genes to show up in the begining with reptiles that have small clutches. But once there is one male it just explodes. That one male bred to 10 females that are doulbe hets. approx 25% of the clutch is double ressive.
