LOL the US is startin to seem more and more inviting! I'd be able to keep those gems I so long to have! Plus my collection would be ten times bigger! :D *starts looking into what it takes to move into the US* lol....
Well for any of you that crave being near hots... it's a very simple process down here... take a walk.
{G}
In our immediate area we have Cotton Mouths, Copper Heads, and just a few miles south we have Corals, and in several areas we have Eastern Diamond-Backs, Pine Rattlers, Pygmies etc. etc. course we also have the occasional King to keep them all in check... one lives under our house at present. Every time Tay sees it out she puts it back in. LOL - No rat poison here... we also have a GIANT king that lives in Dad's barn in the front yard... shares it with a Rat Snake - they get along famously - weirdly enough...
Heck a couple years back Tay and I were cleaning up a brush pile in the yard and there were about a dozen baby Copperheads that were slightly upset at the invasion... Tay put them in a bucket and delivered them to the nearby swamp and turned them loose.
Behind the plant that I work at there are Water Mocs... that WILL get your attention... something about the water being run off from a Hydro plant... and it stays over 90 degrees year round.. makes them very large, and very aggressive. They tend to defend their territory with a vengeance. Never seen those girls get as big and nasty as those back there... also some of the most beautiful banded water snakes in the area back there as well.
Move to the US? I dunno... I like your health care plan a bit better up there... and it's so freakin' clean... When we lived in MI we spent a great deal of time in Canada. Beautiful country... even went as far as James Bay on our expeditions. But if'n ya like hots... hots we got.
Take care,
Jon

Wow thanks, I really really wanna move to the US now. I would give anything to be able to go for a walk and find those hots! A question tho, what's a "pine rattler"? LOL that's one I have never heard of, unless you mean timber rattler ofcourse?
Do you know of any state that allows you to keep hots as well as crocodilians in the eastern US? That would be the state for me!
I would've loved to find those baby copperheads! Gosh that woulda been such an experience!
Thanks so much, I just got even more motivation to move to the US... :D

Yep... just another name for Timber...
Here's a link with a lil' info...

Not sure on that one...

Yep. It would get your attention... LOL
Sounded like we had an air leak on the ground... all that hiss-n...

LOL...
Bring yer snake stick...
On the other hand... it's sometimes not as great as you might think. In Michigan, we could walk through any amount of tall grass, underbrush etc. without worry.. you could jump into any creek, river or lake equally without worry... Make that a habit down here or in any southern or western state and you will eventually be in for a surprise. Where you walk you must watch carefully, you don't just meander out into the wild starting at the trees... you stare at the ground AND in the trees because they're everywhere! And water sources are for fishing... swimming is done in man made pools & lawns are kept mowed very short for a very good reason! Winter obviously the rules are a little different, then you might walk up on one in a deep sleep.

Hey there :)
LOL @ an air leak from the coppers hissin, do you remember approximately how many there were?
I have been looking into moving to the US for the past few hrs now LOL. :usa: Actually I've been checking laws and such surrounding herpetofauna. If I moved it looks like it would be to Michigan, not too far from family, and I gotta have my snow. :D I love Canada don't get me wrong but for herpers it seems exceedingly difficult compared to the US, that is unless HSUS is successful in banning herps all together.
>( :bugout:
Getting almost everything other than corns and leopard geckos is difficult in Canada. I dunno bout others but I need variety, more than just corns and balls and I have never even owned a leopard gecko lol.
I would love to go herping in the SE US, that would be the greatest! Could maybe go next summer. :) :D Any areas you reccomend that are especially good for herpin in the SE US? I would love to go in the FL everglades. :) Ever been there? I would love to go fishin and herpin there, no plans on swimmin tho lol.

>I imagine... Different states have different Herp laws... as well as do different counties... have to check those as well before ya moved.
MI gets plenty of snow... we get about 3 weeks of it.. usually all at once... be 70 degrees one day then 24" of snow and 15 degrees the next... weird weather.

That is one thing I've noticed... the availability is a great deal more in the states... but you guys have a handful of good breeders working on that variety... so ya never know what the next few years will hold.

Nope never been to the Everglades, Tay has - a few times... just about anywhere south of the Blue Ridge Mountains are going to hold a pile of herps... the farther south or west you go you're gonna run into 'plenty' of variety.
:D
You could always check out the SE Hot Herp society website... http://www.venomousreptiles.org/ for more info..

We get plenty of snow up here so I couldn't imagine a Christmas without it! hehe :D
I hope Michigan doesn't have any laws that will prevent me from moving there. I never thought about county laws tho, thanks!
I agree we have some excellent breeders, however most of the good breeders only have a variety of corns, boas and pythons. What I wouldn't give for some beautiful asian colubrids!
"just about anywhere south of the Blue Ridge Mountains are going to hold a pile of herps..." where's that? :p
I've been to SE Hot Herp Society's website many many times. I go there to droul over all the excellent hot pics. :D  LOL
The Blue Ridge is NC's span of the Appalachian chain... that and part of the Great Smokey Mountains... just the tip.. the Blue Ridge is so named because of it's spooky ethereal blue coloration... you should see the mist.. It's phenomenal... seems like you cross that and you are in the 'south'... though it's not the fabled Mason/Dixon line... habitat becomes more sub-tropical the farther south you go.
