Hey all,
I was looking into getting some more ball pythons and a pair of normal retics but then I thought why not get 100% hets???

I know bout as much bout genetics as I do about changing a tire on my car. So here's my questions...

python = retic or ball

- If I bred 1.1 pythons that were 100% het for albino what would the offspring turn out like? 25% norm etc

- How many albinos in say a clutch of 4 or 8 for balls, 30 or 60 for retics?

- What are the chances of producing albinos?

- What would the normals in the clutch be called? 50% poss het etc

Hope someone can help, thanks! :)

P.S. Just for fun here's a pic of my friend's new lil female retic, only 3 feet of "aww what a cutie". :)

25% nomal
25%albino
50% het albino

so in a cluth of 4 bp, 1 normal, 1 albino, 2 het

You chances go with the %

Since you have 1 normal and 2 het but it's impossible to know whitch one, the would be caled 66% het albino, I'm not sure for this one...

I'm no expert...but this is what the egg heads are saying...(pun intended)

Remember that it's probabilities not just straight percentages...If you have 4 in a clutch...one is not guaranteed to be albino. The albino probability is 25% so each snake has a 25% chance of being albino regardless of what the others in the clutch are.

I think this is right but please correct me if I'm wrong.

yep remember that the gentics of every individual egg is separate from the other eggs.

This means that every egg in the clutch has a 25% chance at being albino, 50%normal looking Het and 25% chance of being plain normal.

So while everyone my simply and that out 4 egg you will get 1 albino, this is not nessarily true...its an average. You may get lucky and out of 4 egg get 2 or 3 thou the odd are against you there. or you my be unluck and get not albinos in a clutch of 6 eggs.

You see I am buying 5 50% poss hets and each one has a 50% separate from the other hets. so stats wise out of 5 snakes I SHOULD get 2 or 3 proven out hets, but again that is a simplifcation I may get 4 hets or only 1 (I would just cry of I get no hets and do a jig if all 5 love het)

Think of it as a 4 sided dice (in this case there is only 4 possiblities)

One one side is N for normal, H for het on 2 sides and A on one side.

Now roll... every time you roll the previous roll has no meaning.

Hope this helps, I am a novice with snakes but pretty solid with genetics. LOL

i think i have a normal female. what would happen if i bred her to an albino male?
what would be my possiblities?

If your normal female isn't het for albino, then all the babies would be normal looking but het for albinism.

If by surprise she's actually carring the albino gene (het for it) then you'd get a 50% chance of albinos and 50% normals. The normals would be 66% het for albinism.

"Stats-wise" it DOES depend on the other eggs in the clutch. Sure each egg has a 25% chance of being albino, but if an albino hatches out, the chances for all the other eggs changes (statistically, that is). Hence the 66% chance. If an albino is found, then you are only dealing with 3 eggs, 2 of which are "statistically" hets.

Sorry have to correct you Vanan,

If by surprise the female is Het for albino and she mates it with an albino...yes 50% would be albino and 50% would be normal looking...but those normals would be 100% het albino.

An albino parent cannot produce anything but 100% hets or albinos (should no other hidden ressive genes be a factor)

So worst case senerio all the hatchling are Het (Big demand for the females) and BEST case senerio you get a few REALLY nice surprises in the clutch.

FYI 66% hets can ONLY be produce by a Het with a Het mating.

Darn! I always do that! Sorry mate! Yea, Zakhrin's right. Didn't realise what I had posted. What I mentioned would be more suited to a het to het breeding. Thanks man!

So if I get this right, a normal female bred with a het male for albino would have little to no chances of producing an albino offspring?

A normal x a get albino would not produce any albino cause both parent need to pass the gene to the offspring. That's for simple reccesive morph.

In the co-dominante morph like pastel bp, the pastel has just one gene, so it's like if it would be a visible het pastel. The one that has both gene are called super pastel.
