Hey guys, I'm a Avionics Technician at a helicopter service company, its pretty cool repairing or building helicopters. but sometimes i just wish i could go back time, be back in highschool and apply for university for herpentology. I love learning about reptiles, and sometimes i feel that i should have gone and done it. sigh... The only reason i went for something else is cause my dad though i wouldnt be able to make a good living as a herpentologist or reptile vet... so i looked else where. I want to go back but i feel that i'm already set. At 20, i thinkl im too old. I can always learn on the side... here!

So anyway what do u guys do for a living? any of you breed snakes for a living?

Although I currently get up at 4 am for work, it aint to bad. I work for Ruger Investment Casting; a division of Sturm, Ruger & Co. I get to cut, grind, blast and polish metal for 10 hours a day. It can be fun, it can be tedious...but all pays the same.

At home I make some Norse jewelry and artwork and carve waxes for me dad. He is a silversmith and owns Urweg (http://www.urweg.com/anfang.html)). He makes some of the greatest Norse Tribal jewelry in all the land.

I just finished this Viking knitwork (http://img46.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img46&image=silver_001.jpg) here, which when finished up will look a bit more like this Viking Plait bracelet (http://www.urweg.com/list/bracelets/Viking_Plait_tt.jpg).

I am a Workforce Admin.

That boils down to me sitting in front of about 10 computers making sure all 1000+ agents are doing what they should be doing while at the same time making sure we are meeting our clients needs.

Its a fun job and we deal with some great companies like HP. On the side I paint and sell pewter miniatures.

I dont breed reptiles to make $$ but if I can sell some babies to help pay for my hobby and get new additions to the collection that great. I have been keeping reptiles (full time) for just over 10 years now and love every bit of it. I have kept everything from house geckos to black & white spitting cobras and my real love is in arborial vipers. Always looking to improve on the Trimerisaurus collection.

I'm in the middle of a veterinary assitant course, which I have no intention of pursuing anything further than that in that field, but am forced to finish. In September I begin a 3 month personal trainer certification program.

My old job closed down shop (Kris's Reptiles & Travelling Exotics Roadshow) which left me with my weekend job working coat check at a classy bar. That job is seasonal however so it's closed until the cold weather starts up again. I was working as a cook at another place up until the other day when I quit :o

So pretty much for the moment... I'm unemployed :o

I work in a supermarket, as the vegetable and fruit dude. Gonna start a course after the vacation as a veterinary assitant (well it sounds the same, not sure if it is the same :D ) It will take 3 years to finish that. It will be a homeschooling thing, so i still be working at the supermarket while learning.

Up until a month and a half ago i was a secretary/book keeper, that was until my mom told me that if she couldn't find someone to help run her store. She was going to have to sell. So i went back to manage and hopefully inherite in 4 years her store , a Dairy Queen. It's not what i expected, but i will live comfortably with several headaces from many teenage kids. LOL

This is the reason i don't post on ssnakess as much, because i'm working over 50+ hours a week. Glad i'm not on salary, yet.

Well, I do production work for a company called Camco here in Kelowna, where I pre-solder carbide tips for any kind of saw you could ever imagine (skill saws to band saws, you name it)! We ship all over the world and I love what I do. The pay is fantastic, so are my co-workers (though a couple I could certainly live without) and my bosses are the funniest people ever. For example, we always have huge Christmas parties and the owners get together to do "skits" for us.....one year it was porky pig santa, dorff santa and "Austin Powers" santa and we all got turns going up, getting gifts (while being embarrassed) and having our photos taken. Yup, I got it good there. The hours can be crazy, running up to 63 hours per week, but the ot pay kicks butt!:D

I just recently quit my job of 4 years due to extreme stress and mistreatment, but I WAS a Software Quality Assurance Analyst (fancy term for software tester) for an Internet company. Now I'm doing the reptiles thing, and running my graphic & web design business. I am still vying for another tester job though.

I kinda walk around staring at the sky a lot.
Seriously, I maintain condos and properties. I'm outside 99% of the time, so I see a lot of wildlife which I prefer to being inside looking at walls and people.

I am a singer/songwriter... but no one pays me for it! Lol

After high school (8 years ago... yikes!), I decided to pursue music full time. I worked odd jobs to get by but I actually did pretty well with the music thing. I was taken on by Chris Burke-Gaffney, the guy who got Chantal Kreviazuk her record deal as well as McMaster and James and a bunch of other artists. He's a great guy and very talented at what he does.

I was signed (once upon a time) to a development deal with Warner Bros. in the US. But that has all kind of "disappeared" for many different reasons including immigration laws, my manager got cancer and my family life kind of took over (and so have snakes :D). Oh well... maybe one day I will seriously pursue it again.

Currently, I am enjoying working casually at a local theatre where I was once part of the management team. I also do the "snake-thing" which takes up several hours each day, I dabble in web-design…nothing crazy, just some basic stuff for my own purposes and I am a stay-at-home dad to my 3 kids (4.5, 3 and 1). I feel that life has been good to me. :)

Well... I don't do anything exciting or "fancy" ... I'm just a feeder breeder and quite happy with it. :) It means I get to stay at home with my daughter and do something I love, instead of sitting inside a stuffy office for 9 hours a day and force myself to be "nice" to people who I would much rather tear the heads off of and feed to monitors.... er... I mean... OOPS! Did I say that out loud? :D I used to manage a pet store... HATED it.. and before that was an "administrative assistant," which is just a nice fancy way of saying "secretary" or "receptionist." It was an okay job... but I much prefer working with animals to dealing with idiots.
Take care

i manage an exotic petstore run by a bunch of @$$holes.
i'm sure the animals know more about humans than the owners know about them. heck, i'm sure they'd be able to write a book about themselves before the owners ever even read about them. i'm literally the backbone of the place and i'm completely unappreciated and cynical today. *forced smile*

I have nothing important to post so i put something totally uncalled for here instead....which of course forces me to have to have Shane edit my post...which ive done, grow up, this is a public forum and stupidity of this sort is totally uncalled for! Since i have to waste my time editing this, i thought i would leave it and respond here so that everyone can read your reply from me. If your not going to respond to this thread in a manner that is past a grade 2 level, don't respond at all! Shane.

Charm School graduate, too, mark, don't leave that one out. (hahahaha thanks to shane for editing that post ;)

Anyways I work the graveyard at a research facility that runs a lot of traffic information systems for the state DOT. Its ok, salary isnt anything to cheer about, but its not tragic, either. We do ok. No breeding snakes. I dont think hubby could take it. But I think one day when I have a chunk of money I could see myself opening my own LPS. I really love animals, and working with them and learning about them, so It would be a job Id love to go too every day.

I'm in jewellery, just started a new job (sales for now). I actually love it. I have worked in some very high end places and hated it (the women can be monsters). The girls and management at this new place are great.

I have been in jewellery in many aspects for the last 5/6 years - goldsmithing, gemology, diamond grading, repair, design, rendering, admin, appraisals, sales etc.

This fall, I am taking courses for a jewellery modeling/design program. My boss also owns a watch manufacturing company and hopefully I'll be designing them in the next year!!! Yay, I'm so excited! Here's hoping that it works as planned - lol!

I work in Niagara Falls for a major hotel. I drive their casino shuttle around and around all day. I pick up guests from 6 hotels and take them to the casinos. The route can take 15 mins to over 2 hours depending on traffic. I meet people from all over the world and have had many great conversations about herps. Many of my guests come back looking for me to ask about one of my herps or how an iguana rescue had gone.Pays not bad and the hours aren't long so it leaves me lots of time for the animals..

Well I tried the SAHM for 6 months when I got laid off after 2 yrs of being a crew leader (lead hand) at an assembly line bakery. It didnt' pay enough to buy the snakes I want ( DH likes my hobby but won't pay for it for me :P ) So now I'm a sales associate for 7-11. I like it I work graveyards wich is what I like to work, pay is ok for me and my boss is already looking at me becoming an assitant manager or manager. And I have money to buy my snakes!! Eventually I would like my hobby to support itself, my husband supports the family I just need the money to get more snakes.

Is this where I sign up for reptiles anonymous???

I currently manage a divison of a group of companies. I do have to put in a lot of hours every week to ensure things are running smoothly and the money keeps coming in. The pay is very good but the perks are so awesome they are just insane. It took 17 years to get to this point and it was worth every day and every hour. I does truly go to show that hard work and education do pay off. The rest is just time effort and Patience.

Car mechanic, turned heavy truck mechanic, turned heavy truck mobile mechanic, turned heavy equipment mobile mechanic. I have a love hate relationship with my job. The hours are far too numberous, sometimes outside in mud, lying under a bulldozer, in the rain or in the snow makes me wonder why i bother doing it....then my paycheck comes in a quickly realize why. I love the mechanical aspect of it, i love and have always loved fixing things. I particularily like being mobile, its just me, the machine and my tools, no one to help, no one for advice, just make sure you fix it, companies don't like to hear that you can't. It makes for an interesting and often frustrating day sometimes, but the challenge makes you strong, and the feeling of satisfaction i get from figuring out something that took hours or days is often a great feeling once you finally get it right...its hard to explain but i guess in the end i just love and need to fix things :)
