Congrats on the albino hogs~!
Congrats Sebastard! ;) Your efforts are now paying.
Did you hatched only a hog head? This egg looks like its not capable of sustaining a body. Post a pic that show's size , whats the deal with all those "micros" this year? Roy then you :)

Way to go C-Bass!
Your albino hog is the first to be hatched in Canada, you'd think if somebody else did hatch amels, we would of heard of it...
Your hard work now pays off big time! Is mom working on the second clutch?
A big congrats is in order buddy!

Sorry but I hatched out 2 baby albino westerns about 7 years ago. Long before I even discovered the internet let alone forums.
Still one of my favs!
Awesome work!
Thanks for sharing guatope's gape...
I was not aware albinos were produced 7 years ago considering the original amelanistic hognose first appeared in 98 and were produced by Steve Hammack from H.I.S.S in the U.S.
Hets were not released until 2000 at the earliest and so your pair must of been unrelated to the above?
Care to share pics?

The 2 babies were a complete shock to me as well. I've never had an interest in color morph's, albino's, xanthic's etc.. I've always bred the animals based on its natural phenotype. I may still have pics but they'd be regular 35 mm photo's, may take some while to dig up.
Another neat note is this was the only Colubrid I ever kept or bred so trust me it was a pretty big surprise when it happened.
To add insult to injury I beleive the offspring went to a petstore.

Please dig up those pictures, I would love to see them.
A petstore???? Any idea what some people would have paid for those? Did you ever breed the parent pair again?

Ryan,
I'm starting to see the value of all these aberations, color forms etc.. But sorry my interests were always based in the natural form. I'll never be one to lay out ANY amount of money for any of these although I can apprecieate their beauty. Just my personal tastes. Yes I did bred the pair two or three times before moving on but only ever had the two albino babies. Just chaulked it up as a freak of nature occurance.
My main interests always lied with Boids and Hots.
All the oldtimers out there can attest that prior to forums such as this and the internet, finding customers for some of these animals in country the size of ours was not always that easy so the Petstores and large wholesallers were the easiest avenue of moving stock.
I remember as well that most of the offspring of most of the Boids I kept went to a wholesaller in Montreal as in the City where I reside the Bylaws prohibitted the keeping of some of these beautifull animals. Not to say there weren't several thousands of people keeping them just I wasn't able to go and put an ad in the local newspaper advertising their sale.
I'll gladly leave all the mutations for everyone else give me the natural

Not sure which part you find difficult Sebastian. I only stated that Hognose have always been one of my favorites, which is why I kept and bred them, but never at any point did I mention that I like albino's.
I bred the hognose a few times but was never one of my main areas of focus. I can't recall if it was the same pairing or not as the 2 albino's I had in the one clutch was the only time I ever had them. And as I stated earlier Albino's or any other form other than regular was and still is not my cup of tea. I'll gladly leave all of them for the masses of people that like them, just not my preference.
I've kept and bred snakes for the better part of 30 years now and have had many challenges and exciting things happen. Long before their was the internet and newsgroups etc.. for the sharring of information. My setup's today are still primitive by most standards but they've given me success in years past so I'll more than likely never change.
So well if you don't want to believe me..... Ok, I could care less. You can tell everyone your the first to bred them as you have definetly put the effort into breeding them for Albino's whereas I just had a anomaly. It wasn't like today were I could purchase whatever % of Het I choose for alot of species. I had what I had and was happy for it. Knowing now what some people are willing to pay for such creatures, why I'll never understand, yeah I probably would have kept them back for future breeding.
Kudos on your acheivement!
I apologize if you took offence to not being the first in Canada but I'm pretty sure this forum doesn't reach every single breeder in Canada so how could anyone know?
Keep what YOU like beacause YOU like it. Who cares who does what. Do what makes YOU happy.
That little one looks very cute~!
Thanks for sharing the comparison pictures~!
Such a lovely looking hoggie~

yes, sorry to admit but they either went to one of the stores or the only large wholesaller at the time which was in Montreal. This was pretty much my only means of moving some of my animals as well it gave me the oppurtunity to get new and desirable animals into my lab at better prices than I could acquire elsewhere.
At the time I was a complete computer phob, not really much better now but at least I'm trying.
