Ok... I’m new here but I’ve reading the forum for SOME time now. I have a couple of questions.

I’m in the market to buy my first Kingsnake in the next month. I like the Desert Phase California Kingsnake or the Fake Coral (Mountain Kingsnake). I got the tank, beading, hide box and a bowl for water. All I need is the heating pad to put on one side.

My questions are:

Where on Toronto would be a good place to pick one of these beauties up? What is the price range? ( I saw one in PJ’s for $200. First, I wouldn’t buy from them and second I thought that was kind of expensive for a Kingsnake). I would like to buy form a breeder.

Second, when someone describe their pets, they always say, for example,

0.1.1 Colombian Red-Tailed Boas
0.1 Blue Panther Chameleon
1.1 Colombian Rainbow Boas

What does the 0.1 and the 1.1 and so on mean?

Third and last, what would be a good heat source for the ¼ of the tank that should be at around 85 F.

Thanks in advance

I can answer at least one question
the 1.1.1 the first is a male the second is a female and the third is unsexed
so for example if you have 1 male 3 females and 7 unsexed babies you would rite it 1.3.7
I hope this helps

You could use a heat lamp instead of the heat pad as I've known people who've had snakes burrow underneath and get a decent burn due to the glass heating up and no rheostat attached onto the heat pad.

Safe ways of using a heat pad IMO, is to attach a rheostat and NEVER stick em to the bottom of ur tank. Just lay it on the ground and place tank on it. This way there's at least a small space of air which will reduce the amount of heat transmitted. You could also place a thin piece of wood or something appropriate on top of the heat pad this way. This would help evenly distribute the heat.

Good luck!
