Tragic loss

I went into my room just a few minutes ago to mist my atb and when i looked into it's enclosure it was just hanging there lifeless. They other day it was active and perfectly fine...iono what could have caused this. :confused: I had the humidity and temps right. I'd have a necropsy done, but i don't have the money to have one done and don't know of any vets that deal with herps in my area. He was with me for only 2 short months. R.I.P Carnage. :( I'll miss ya buddy.

OMG My ATB was with me two months as well. Your post is identical to mine! So Sorry, none of the vets in the area said they could do a necropsy for me. So we're in the same boat

Why don't you do your own necropsy. You'll learn something about your snakes anatomy. It's dead noe and I'm sorry for your loss but why let this chance go to waste. We did cats, pigs, worms, frogs and a few others when I was in high school and Uni. Most university/college book shops should sell a disection kit(scapel, probe, etc..) for cheap. You'll just need a wood slab and some tacks to complete it.

Uh Derrick, that's great but you really can't learn much if you don't know what to look for. So really it would just be chopping your pet up in hopes you MAY figure something out...

how strange....that makes 3 of us, whom lost our ATB no more than 2 or 3 months old...very strange indeed, mine however was due to salmonela (sp?) in it's bloodstream...the vet couldn't figure out how it got there, just that it put the snake into a system wide shock, wich het hinks might have contributed to the death...however, i am still curently awaiting the finidings from the histo pathologist? or somthing like that, and was only slightly comforted by the vet to learn it was through no fault of my own...my condolences are with the both of you, on our shared loss...

It's good to know that it was not your fault that your atb passed away. It is quite odd that there have been 3 of us that have lost atb's in the last 2-3 months.

Well where there's life there's death, i just wish loosing your pet wasn't this hard...

Derrick, i thought about doing my own necropsy on a baby cham that i lost a year ago, just for the sake of learning, and comaparing it to what i allready knew about lizard physiology. But my girlfriend at the time got real mad when i mentioned it to her.

As for what to look for....things that dont look right, ie, bumps, growths, strange discolourations on organs. And if you want something to compare it to, go to the library and get a book on snake physiology. Most textbooks will have figures that most laymans can understand, for a point of comparison.
