Hello everyone!
My boa just went in to the vets because he had a respiratory. Anyways, the vet prescribed something I have never heard of before. Its called CHLOR PALM 250 (x60ml bottle). The active ingredient is Chloramphenicol(palmitate). He has prescribed 2cc(ml) once daily, orally administered. My boa is about 5' 9" and weight about 8lbs. This sounds a little high, but I am just wondering, since I have never heard of this stuff. Thanks!

that does sound like it is one the high side of things. i think that the usual dose is 10-15ml/kg for oral administration which works out to about 0.15 of a ml. but seeing as the Chloramphenicol may be diluted by being in a product such as chlor palm i am not sure. you could always call your vet to ask how he got the dosage and to recheck his calculations if you are concerned about giving so much.
It is impossible for us to tell you anything without knowing the concentration. 2cc doesn't tell us anything... I could give my snake a very dilute 2cc and underdose or too high concentration and overdose... all would be 2cc though ;)

Thanks Derrick. Well, all I could get off the bottle said:
Chloramphenical(palmitate) per 50mg/ml?
All the stuff on that site is right except that on the bottle it says per mL = 50mg? Odd.

that means 50 mg of active ingredient per ml of fluid

But that contradicts what the name of the product is(from what Derrick posted), saying that there is 250mg/ml. I know what it means though.
