mouse in the wall

this really sucks...

the other night i heard something moving around a lot in my closet in the basement (i live in the basement) and i didn't want to open the door cause i didn't want a mouse lose in the basement with me. it was only making noises when i walkd by the door but then when i tried to go to sleep it didn't stop and i couldn't fall alseep. i went upstairs and went to sleep in the guest room.

my grandmother (i live with my grandparents) put sticky traps in the closet which made me sick because those make mice suffer, i'd rather use the ones that kills them instantly. but one time we opend the door and kept hearing the scratching noise and it wasn't in the closet so it must be in the wall, so the poor thing is trapped in the wall.

i feel really bad for it, my grandparents are trying to make me feel better by telling me its just going to die. there really isn't a way to get it out, how long will it take for the poor thing to starve?

lol I dont feel to bad for the mouse but arent you or your grandparents worried about the odour after it dies?

Mice sometimes live in the walls of houses. The scratching you hear could be it chewing on something as they are rodents and need to chew. I wouldn't be suprised if there is a few of them living in your house.

If he got in he can get out, mice are notorious for residing in walls, gaps lead ALL OVER houses, and he probobly just found something to occupy himself for the night in that area. OR he could be chewing his way out!:)

the noise sounds mostly like fluttering, like a bird but sometimes i hear it squeeking and making its little mouse noises and its only in one certain part of the wall and hasn't moved an inch away from there. maybe its not stuck but i sure think it is and i feel really bad for the little guy

well is it just drywall? if it is its easy enough to cut a hole and patch it back up. Especially being in a closet. I'ld talk to the GP's but you could easily do it with out them knowing if you're sneakly inclined :).

It may have a nest there and that could explain it (and possibly the squeaking), however in my experience, mice will tend to stay in the general area of the house that they occupy. The fluttering you explain is interesting, could be a mouse, or something else(?). We had a mouse problem in our old house and it was just crazy. I agree that if you hear one (it could even be more than that) then you may soon find out you have a lot more :eek: We had to finally set up traps and never found how they were getting into the house. They can squeeze into amazingly small spaces and proliferate rapidly.

Hopefully it got into the house by fluke ;) and will find it's way out (and no more come in). You might want to do a check for any areas around the outside of the house that a mouse could be getting into, just in case.

You could also try setting a live trap up with some cheese or peanut butter inside to try and attract it out, then release it far from the house.

Send in a ferret on a leash. They will get rid of the mice for you.
But on a serious note just keep using a trap it will get rid of them real quickly if there isnt a huge number of them.

ummm it may not starve mice tend to eat every thing bugs n such i mean they are pretty hardy animals just hope the thing isnt pregnant uh oh id set out food to lure it in and bust out the bb gun and humanely shoot the little varmint in the head and if the bb goes all the way through...bonus snake lunch lol

If anything I wouldn't be worried about a mouse in a wall suffering to death. Infestions happen so easily because those little critters can survive very easily in a home. My dad let the dog in to the basment who in turn freed (and killed :rolleyes: ) a bunch of mice, the two that managed to spare their lives soon turned in to 50 which turned in to ?? We used sticky traps, and albeit they aren't the most humane, they still spare the lives of the little guys provided you check them daily and release them. Make sure if you do catch him, you release him at least 1 mile away from your home, or he will be back.... with friends :eek:

I'd definitely make an effort to remove him. I know several people who had mice in the walls and didn't do anything about it.... until the mice chewed the electric wires and shorted out several circuits. It cost a fortune to get it fixed (though it did finish off the mice. Apparently electrocuted mice don't stink up a storm, there's not much left to rot).

The comment about electrical wires is an important one. My parents had friends out in British Columbia who had mice problems. Some stupid mouse chewed a wire. Killed itslef and then started a fire that burnt down about half their house... Nasty business.

Dotn feel bad for the mouse, it will just ruin and damage everything in its path lol. Soon enough it will die, and they just shrivel up and dry out, no odour.
