View Full Version : Leo Gecko
I was wondering if anyone knows of the value of a 3 year old Super Hypo Pastel leopard gecko male? He is large, very healthy, and beautiful coloring. Just a general idea would be great.
I have seen one for over $300, is that accurate?

He lives in Canada, so $300 CDN is around $230 US.
I think $300 is a good deal if the body is spottless, and it has few head spots.

If the pic works, he is the big guy in the back.

I'm guessing it isn't a super hypo pastel then? It has tons of spots.

from the pic it really doesnt look like a pastel. it looks like a normal and if he is, then he is worth no where near $300. can you get a better pic of him? nice leo nonetheless
Here he is with the original owner.

well then maybe he is worth $300 as an oddity...:flick:
Thanks for th input :) Would anyone happen to nkow if the 2 tails might be genetic? I haven't seen any others that were born with 2, so i'm not sure.

If it is, its not a trait that would want to be passed on. As amazing as it is, its still a deformity. Its not a super or anything, most likely just an amazingly unique normal. Could even be high yellow.
Amazing though. I would deffinetly keep him, its not everyday you run into that!
I doubt it's genetic. It's just a deformity. Do people who are born with one leg have one-legged children?

Well judging by the looks of the tails it looks like it may have broken off at a young age and grew 2 ...which in the reptile world isnt too uncommon .... the reason I say this is because leos without regen tails look like they have numerous rings around their tail such as this one http://www.proexotics.com/pics_11_18/geckos/e%20leopard%20gecko%20breeder%20female%209-19-02.jpg
Whereas regen tails typically become shorter, smoother, and fatter like this one http://members.aol.com/msnick1/leopardgeckos/gektla.jpg
So I think its just a rare 2 tail regen

It looks to be a normal, with some pastel, and definetely not a super hypo, but it is not worth anywhere near $300 CDN. I'd say $50 to $100.
I have to agree with the regenerated tail thing. It looks like he probably lost it and grew back 2.

It's definitely a regenerated tail, and not likely to have hatched that way, though it could easily have dropped the tail shortly afterwards. If the tail breaks at just the right point, it can grow back with 2 or more tips. Check the pictures in the Leopard Gecko Manual and you'll see some variations that can happen.
A double tail doesn't make it worth $300, nor any extra dollar value since the double tail only lasts if the tail isn't dropped again. Next time it could grow back a single tail.
The leo in question looks like a normal, possibly pastel but there are too many spots to see the background colour clearly. All I see is an adult leo, normal spotting and a regenerated tail... possibly worth $50 - $75 CDN.
I have seen this animal in person, and it's definately a normal. It's nice, and an oddity, but definately a normal.

I agree with the regenerated tail theory, I saw an article in the REPTILES magazine about a 2 tailed snake, but the author showed a picture of a two tailed day gecko.
I think he's cute, I'd keep him if I were you!
