View Full Version : the different boas
Hi everyone, I have never owned a boa but I'am very interested in getting one. I would like to know the differences, if any, between the columbian, surinam, peruvian, and guyanan redtail boas. Things like size, temperment, and feeding habits if there are any. Your time is greatly apperciated.
Thanks, DB
Derrick

Well firstly there are many different localities of Bci as well as Colombian. That asides the differences between Colombian Bci and Bcc are minimal. They are both the same size on average, being around 6-8.5' in length. I find Bcc to be less tractable in terms of them being more insecure off the ground which translates to more spastic movements, even with regular handling. Both can be docile or biting at anything that moves, but generally Bci are easier to acclimate to handling as youngsters. If you want a handleable snake, make sure you get it as baby. Generally Bcc have more colour to them than Colombians do, as well as shaplier saddles. Bcc have less than 22 saddles, Colombians can also have less, but often have more. Colombians are supposed to be the hardier of the two subspecies.
Bcc (Guyanese)

All i can think is i wish i knew where something like this was when i first became interested. I don't know if this site already has it or not but there should be articles to tell people basic stuff like this and even more advanced stuff. It would be really cool and beyond helpful. It would also increase the already high quality of the site. Just an idea.

This was an AMAZING guide.
I read it from top to bottom and got tons of useful info from it. And it answered every question I had about BCIs. Thanks for sharing the link!

The search engines on the site are a wonderul, but often overlooked tool. This topic, as well as many others, are frequently discussed and can be found by a quick search. We also have a caresheets section which albeit isn't very big, but still growing :)
