I would get a 28-quart rubbermaid or smaller for a hatchling. They don't need much space, and in my experiences, don't like a lot of space anyway.

I've never tried to stick a UTH onto the bottom of a rubbermaid, so I couldn't help you there. What you could do, is get rid of that UTH, go to Walmart and buy a human heating pad (say, SunBeam brand) and place that on the outside underneath of the rubbermaid. I am using this method right now, and it works very well. Since the rubbermaids you will be using are quite small, you will need to make sure the heating pad isn't covering the entire bottom floor; there needs to be a gradient. Also, keep the heating pad on low heat, and if possible, it is important to get it on a rheostat or thermostat so you are certain it isn't frying your little one.

Oh, and about clamping a light on as well, I wouldn't worry about doing that. The heating pad alone should be plenty of heat.

Hope that helps some. :)
