Went out to publix looking for a bowl and came across a plastic ash tray. Perfect for a water bowl for my sandboa heavy yet not to heavy and a think plastic. Cant believe its an ash tray but it is. Looks like it will work perfectly. Just needed to know if melamine will be toxic to the snake. It says 100% melamine. If it isnt toxic i think i have found new water bowls for my juvenile snakes.:D t

Melamine isn't toxic, it is actually quite popular as a building material amongst herpers. I personally am not a fan of it, but each to their own. Seems like an unusual choice of material for an ashtray though, I've never seen anything built entirely out of it, only coated with it (countertops, particle board). On another note, ashtrays make perfect dishes for a lot of small snakes, as well as rammikans and other things people use from time to time.
I've been using ashtrays as water & food dishes for my smaller herps for a long time.
I get them new at the dollar store, 1$ a piece for glass ones or 2 for 1 of the plastic kind. It ended up that way because I couldn't find anything better.
