Hi All,
Very excited, my first clear mating for OBT's (or any spider). Strictly for those interested, here is how is went: (and for my own documentation)
- Female 1 mature molt approx April.
- Male 1 mature molt early June.
- Female 1 and Male 1 enclosures moved together into one large enclosure,
lids left open. They lived like this for 10 days. Both animals explored outside their own enclosures. Never saw anything to suggest mating interest.
- Male 1 back to regular enclosure, Female moves to larger new enclosure.
- Male 2 mature molt Mid June.
- Feed everyone lots.
- July 1, move Male 2 into Female 1 enclosure
- He runs right into her hide, and starts doing the vibrato thing.
- Female very aggresively responds, pushing straight into him, also vibrating
big time.
- Legs up! Spurs in Position, cameras rolling! GO!
- Male 2 gets left insertion, and pumps some spunk,
- Male 2 gets right insertion, and pumps some spunk,
- Male 2 does left insertion again, and pumps some spunk
- Male 2 backs off quickly, and runs.
- Female 1 sits with front legs up quietly for a while (might be thinking of having a smoke).
- I scoop male 2 and get him the heck outa there.
- Female 1 quietly goes back to her hide, and smiles.

Excuse the non scientific nature of this record, but it was very cool to watch. Whole thing was over in 8 minutes.
These animals were purchased as 1/2 inch slings 16 months ago. I never expected them to mature so quickly. The female is approx 5 inch leg span, the males are smaller and very lightly built.
Now the patient part....... egg sacs........
Thanks for reading.

Your male had 2 maturing molts in one month??? I've never heard of this and from what I know that would be a record! I'm guessing that the first molt wasn't his maturing molt.

Loved your account of the events! :D Cool play by play.

Good luck on the eggsac.

Thanks. There are 2 males, they had their mature molts a few weeks apart. Sorry that was not clear.
