I looked at bloods a few years ago but went with sandboas. Now i am looking into them again, and never relaized how large these snakes are for there size. Only little question i have is do most of them really get as big as i have seen in the previous posts, do most of them have a huge girth like i have seen? Also how many pounds can an adult blood python wiegh and how fat of girth an length. thanks JH

Howdy!
Welcome "back" the the realm of bloods!
Sizes:
Assumming you are talking about Malaysian and Summatran Red Blood pythons.
Females, of an adult size, will average 4.5-6.5 feet. Some will reach 7 feet, and the occasional specimen will hit 8(rare). It is possible, but VERY VERY rare, for a blood to hit 9ft. I have a book(by Marc O'shea and Tim Halliday), and they list a possibility of 10 feet, but I believe this to be remote cases of animals reaching this size. A female of 5.5ft would have a girth of approximately 5-8inches. It could be more or less, it all depends on how much/often it is fed. Males will average 3-5 feet, with 4 being common. Some males will occasionally reach 6 feet, but this would be very rare. A 6 foot specimen could weign up to 40 pounds. Weights of up to 65lbs have been recorded for this species. My 3.5ft male is a little bigger around that a pop can, and weighs about 9lbs. Hope this helps!
Sand boas to blood pythons is quite a jump. What kind of other snakes do you have?

good job chris just what i was going to say
Another thing, while their size is certainly impressive, their strength and speed is absolutely phenomenal. To this day I am still in disbelief how fast these snakes can move and just how strong they are. I've worked with a lot of big snakes, but these snakes are the only ones that I've actually had to get down and wrestle

Yes, I must agree with what linds said. They strike HARD AND FAST! It is virtually impossible to dodge a strike. They are also, as Linds said, very strong.
