Does any one have any idea where I could adopt a Iguana? Write now I am in Hinton alberta. (close to edmonton) But I will be going back to kamloops B.C in a month. So if anyone can help me out that would be great. The reason why I am lookin to adopt an iguana is because I know how mistreated they get by there owners. So please help me find an Iguana to adopt. Please e-mail me at aaronandersen@hotmail.com or PM A.S.A.P

That's great :)

I too rescued an ig about 8-9 months ago and have loved the experience but I warn you that they are a BIG handful and you need to do quite a bit of research before you welcome one into your home.

Well prepared, it will be a great experience for both of you.

You can check out these links for good info on iguanas:

http://www.greenigsociety.org/

http://www.iguanaden.com/

http://www.iguanaanswers.co.uk/

http://www.todaysplanet.com/pg/beta/lizardlover/

http://www.anapsid.org

The first three links have great information, the second two are a bit more controvercial but still have good articles.

As for iguanas in need of a good home, you can look up:

Also, the green ig association (first link) has an adoption page as well.

Good luck and start reading :D

hmmm, try the pet store, someones owners just give it to them, but i dont know what they do with them. Do they even sell iguanas in BC? If not then thats probly why there isnt any for adoption. But if you were in ontario there is a few. Well keep trying, hope you find one.

I adoped one from this girls house who had him in this aquaurium while he was 5 feet long!He is now in a cage that is 6'/6'/6', with 2 heat lamps and a flourescet light.

These are diffucult pets to keep, but you should be able to do it!

Adoptions don't always come by quickly, you'll most likely have to do a bit of looking to locate one. It's sad because there ARE so many out there in need of a good home but it's not always easy to find them.

When they are usually "discarded" they are either left free outside, dropped on the doorsteps of pet store, vets, etc. or just pawned off to an unsuspecting friend where it usually meets it's end.

Most animal shelters encounter them on a regular basis so I would definitely contact those in your area. Some do not adopt iguanas out so you might have to "fight" a little for it. Explain to them that you want to save and rehabilitate one instead of buying one (which you could do very easily). Show them you're knowledgeable and will be able to care for it properly. I say this because I heard of a couple of people having to go through that with their local shelters but they got their ig in the end.

Also check with your local herp association. That's how I got my rescue iggy. I was there for a meeting and a member presented her as needing a good home. It was not the first time an ig was brought to a meeting for adoption.

So spread the word out everywhere :) Shelters, associations, vets, pet stores, etc. I'm sure that it won't take long before you find one.

In the meantime you can get your enclosure ready and maybe even prepare yourself a garden of ig foods (collards, dandelions, etc.). I know it sounds tacky but it'll save you a bunch of money and you'll know you're offering your ig top quality nutrition.

Especially if you adopt an older ig, some can eat you out of house and home! My Paco is about 3ish, a bit over 3' long and eats like a horse! She eats at the very least 2 BIG bowls of greens and veggies, half the time she wants a third and that doesn't count in her treats!

Keep us posted :)

I just got off the phone with the S.P.C.A and they said they might be able to help me out but there not positive yet. They said there is an Iguana but someone already wants it. But she said that if things change she will help me out.

(PIXIE) Yeah I know what your talking about... There is so many Iguanas in need of a good home. And they are hard to find. A garden would be a great idea too. I already started on it today. I have some carrots planted and lots of Dandilions. The rest I will have to buy from the store though.

I wish I could just get a big huge house and take in all the animals that need homes but it would cost an arm and a leg. There are so many unwanted animals out there. :( It is truly sad to see. But anyways thanks for the support and hope to see some more replys to this post.

Give a shout to the Edmonton Reptile and Amphibian Society Adoption Line. Call the "Rescue Contact". http://www.edmontonreptiles.com/contact/

They will probably have some green iggys up for adoption. Good luck!
