Ok, my male amazon needs more humidity. I fight for it to go to 60% however most of the time it just settles at 40%.

At the moment he lives in an XL Kritter Keeper, Hot spot is averaging 88 degrees, he has paper towel substrate and a water bowl that covers 1/3 of the enclosure.

I tried covering half the lid with a damp towel, I spray his enclosure like a mad lady, and it's just not coming up.

I had a theory, and thought I'd run it by you guys, my Amazon spends 50% of his time in his ground level hide. I was wondering, why don't I replace the ground level hide with a Humid Hide. I believe that may help.

In other news, my female ATB that I've had for two months died on June 21st. She was seemingly healthy. Her mite ordeal was over and done with. She was readily snapping at food. I checked on her at 7:30pm and she was fine, I came home at midnight, and she was hanging lifelessly from her branch. I really hope it wasn't anything I did. :(

Why does he need more humidity? Is he not shedding well or getting RIs? I kept and bred mine in an glass tank with a screen top with a heat lamp. For substrate I used a combo of cyprus mulch and a lizzard litter mix that looks like peat moss. I spray once in while but not very often. I've never measured the humidity but everything is fine. They are seperate now but regardles both are health and always shed perfectly.
So after saying all that, that is why I'm asking why you need the humidity up. Just wondering if it needs to be up to correct a problem or if you just want it up because like me, every thing you've read says that it should be high.
Cheers,
Trevor

Actually he's going to shed soon and I'm also noticing the beginnings of dehydration.

And when I got him he was in a HORRIBLE shed, so I'm hoping I can get him to shed correctly this time.

No RI's. I'll be putting a better substrate in once he grows up and goes into the custom enclosure I'm having built. I'm still on paper towel atm because my other ATB who passed away had just got over Mites, and they were originally housed together.

so sorry to hear about your female atb passing away. Are you going to have a necropsy(sp?) done to determine the cause of the death? As for your humidity problems, i just mist 2-3 times daily on the hot spot and have 35% of the top of the aquarium covered with plexi glass and my amazon is doing just great. I've never measured the humidity but after misting there is condensation the the glass for a few minutes. Hope this helps :d

I called our local vets. They didn't even know what a necropsy was. So it looks like if I want a Necropsy I have to drive four hours to Toronto. I'm trying to find one closer, but it's hard to find reptile vets, part of the reason I wanted to go get my veterinary lol
