These little guys hatched out on Saturday and Sunday. Out of a sixteen egg clutch, three of the eggs spoiled during the first two weeks, a fourth spoiled during week five, two were developed full term, but died in the egg just days before hatching, and the last one that didn't make it did hatch normally and on his own, but died on the container bottom just after coming out of the egg. The remaining nine hatched out perfectly healthy and are doing extremely well. As this was my first clutch of Chondro eggs, and I was incubating artificially, I expected to lose a few, but I wasn't expecting such a wide array of differing times and apparantly different reasons throughout the process for losing the six that I did. Losing the six was pretty frustrating to watch without knowing exactly why it was happening, when the rest were all developing normally and doing fine under the exact same conditions.....a finicky species to work with to say the least, and I'm certainly happy about the ones that did hatch out normally. Here's a few pics of the healthy ones....a nice mix of bright colors....five yellow and four red.
