I dont know what kind of snake this is, but everydaymy snake crawls in his water dish and just soaks there for about 5 hours. he has a undercage heat mat on one side, and the water is in the middle(pretty much on the cool side).. I have only gotten him to eat once.. (hes a hatchling) and am wondering whats going on with him. Anyone have any advice?

its really impirtant that you find out what species it is..all these actions maybe naturla for the species it is, or you can be doin something wrong and the snake is not being kept properly.

Do you have a picture? of the snake? The tank? What are your temperatures at? What do you use to measure the temperature? The humidity?

We need more information to help you.. and pardon me if I read it wrong, but how could you get a snake and not know what it is?? If you don't know what you have how can you have any idea what the requirements are for it???

I would get a picture of the snake and post it here so we can first determine what it is.. also, maybe it has mites.. where did you get this snake?
So many questions.. you have to give us more information...
