What are the differences between the 2 snakes?

I mean I see just as many Cook's for sale as I do Amazons but websites like Corallus.com say that there are not that many in captivity.

Are the Amazons being misnamed?

I know that the cooks dont have teh colours that teh Amazons do and that cooks are alittle smaller but other then that is there much difference.

Another reason that I am asking this question is that over the years I think I have only been sold 1 snake as a Amazon and the rest were labled cooks.

I have bough red/yellow and what they call garden phase all as cooks. But if cooks are not suposed to be coloured then were they just misnamed?

Also are there any other ways to tell besides the colour of the animal cause I would love to pair up some of the mismatched tree snakes in my collection.

Thanks for any replys to this

Well from what i have read, many snakes labelled as "Cooks" area really just atbs and i too have read that cooks are few and far between. I've actually only seen snakes labelled as cooks twice.

I am so far from an expert on these guys it's just silly, but I believe the only way to tell a Cook's from an Amazon is a scale count.

You mentioned already browsing corallus.com and really, this page on that website is the best out there that i could personally find...

would take a lot of patience, concentration and determination to count all their scales, you'd b better off not knowing lol

Well it's fairly easy if they have a complete shed. Otherwise, yes it would be difficult to say the least with some specimens!

Yeah, it is much easier to use a shed..:D There is very few actual Cooks boas in captivity, actually I personally don't know of anyone in Canada with them. I bought a really nice Amazon, sold to me as a Cook's... Never actually did a scale count, but Im almost sure it isn't. Either way, damn beautiful snakes and I want some more!!

Yea I am tossing my "Cook's" up as a Garden phase ATB.

I love these snakes and always have just funny how when I first started buying them about 6 years ago they were always labled "Cook's".

I remember when I first got into them and I bought about 12 from Massassauga Imports they were like we just got our shipment of cooks in and for a bit after that I always saw them as cooks. Then again we have learned alot in the last few years on a bunch of diff animals.
