Hello everyone,

I happened into a pet store today after passing the place for the last month or so. I browsed around a bit and came to a tank labeled "columbian boa". I've seen plenty of columbian's and this sure as hell looked more like the WC Suriname that I had quite a few years back. Either way, he looked healthy so I took him home for a very reasonable price. After getting settled in he took a couple small mice and poked around the new digs a bit before retreating to the hide-box for a nap.

So what do we have here?

PS. Sorry for the terrible photo, the little bugger wouldn't sit still.

Not only is it a Surimae it's one hell of a great looking one!
If you wanted a smaller boa constrictor you better hope it's not a female because you could easily end up with 12+ snake.

Congrats on the new addition. S/he is super pretty! I agree with everyone else, looks very much Bcc. No telling what locality it is, but still a pretty one nonetheless!

Hmmm.... just curious as to how the snake looks cb? A lot of young imports looks every bit as healthy as captive produced babies. Most of the Bcc in the pet trade are Wc or farmed still, so I would bet it likely wasn't, especially if it was mislabelled in the first place.

This is a misconception. Bcc are NOT the monsters people think they are, and on average even females only linger in the 7-8 foot range. I think the largest Bcc ever recorded was just under 12', so I wouldn't be so quick to say it is an easily attained size. Bcc stay in the same range as Colombians do, and although some very massive specimens have come out of both subspecies, it definitely isn't the norm.

Remeber Linds I used the word "could". I used "could" for a reason. I didn't say "will".:p

Hey thanks everyone,

I'm not very worried with the little buggers size, I have kept large burmese in the past and they didn't really pose any problems. I was more worried about making the purchase and getting out of the store before they caught on that they were selling this snake for $75 than chatting them up about anything. I've named him George (or Georgia, pending a future probe) and the little bugger has been a dream, he's active and inquisitive but very docile.

I'm in the process of purchasing a 421D for his new digs but I haven't quite decided on the exact heating utilities as of yet. I'll post the set-up once he's settled in.
