View Full Version : Best racking system for both baby and adult corns?
Hey all,
During the winter i plan on aquring 6 or 7 adult corns for future breeding projects and don't want to buy individual tanks for each so instead just buy some kind of racking system where I can keep both adult and baby corns. Does anyone know where to get a fair priced but good racking system( it dosen;y have to be to big as we will only need to fit about 7 or 8 adults and maybe 40 or so babies. Since i'm new to rubbermaids and racking systems if anyone could mention some good relativly cheap racking systems or instructions on how to build my own it would be greatly appriciated thx
Kayla:)
I suggest building one but I personally do not have any links handy....
But I'd suggest building more space for babies if you are buying 8 adult corns for breeding. If you get an even split for sexes, you'll have four females. If even only two breed, you will be pushing it by only having 40 cages. If three breed, or any double clutch, you'll need way more cages than 40. :P
Anyways something to think about. Maybe the best plan is too take your time, and build a nice big rack for your 8 adults...then build another two smaller racks to hold the babies after the adult housing is taken care of. It will be easier to build racks one size anyways instead of having one rack that holds tiny rubbermaids as well as big ones. Although its very possible to do so.

Thx marisa,
I will probably try that I just need to figure out how to build them properly without the chance of escape. I've never really understood how rubbermaid racking systems work so this will probably sound very stupid but how excactly do they work? is it just like a big shelf of different sized rubbermaid that u can pull out or how?? if anyone has any good links or has personally built there own and could give me some pointers that would be great.
Thx again
Kayla:)
It's just a shelf that rubbermaids sit on. That's it.
You build the shelves accourding to the height of the rubbermaids you are using. Then you can easily run heat tape on each shelf. I am not sure what you mean by "pull out" as the rubbermaids sit on the shelf. A rack is basically a piece of furniture built to fit rows and stacks of rubbermaids with or without lids.
Here are some links with photos of what a rack is, although these are mostly from the states. Building one yourself is easy, but yes you can buy them.

These are just random examples from google. Searching for "snake rack" on google or this websites search engine will give you many many more responses.
