My grandfather was picking up trash in the back yard, and when he picked up a pile to throw in the back of his truck, a snake popped out! Guess what kind of snake it was? A ball python! About 5 foot (give or take), very healthy, female. He thought it was one of mine, but it wasn't. I was so surprised. I couldn't believe it. What are the odds that a ball python would turn up in the back yard of a snake keeper? It's got good weight, no scars or wounds, and probably 3+ years old. Nice snake. Tame, etc. I set it up in a rubbermaid after I soaked her and treated her for mites. She drank for almost an hour straight - which tells me that it might have been out in the wild for at least a week or so, maybe more - but who knows. I've dubbed her "Yard the python!"

size reference - the rubbermaid is 3ftx1.5ft

She has a vet appt. on Monday for a fecal (hopefully I'll get one in time!) and a general check up - and of course, she's being quarantined.

Yep, she has been dubbed "Yard the python" :)

I called the local reptile shops and animal rescue centers to see if anyone reported a missing ball python, but no one has. I gave them my number, but I seriously doubt anyone will report her missing. Unfortunately, she was probably let go rather than have escaped.

Believe me, I know! A family friend was around when the snake was found, and he kept saying "Don't touch that snake! It's a rattle snake! It's going to kill you! Cut it's head off!"
All I could say was, "well, I guess I have 4 other rattle snakes(ball pythons) in my bedroom, hm?"
People can be really ignorant sometimes..

I don't think a ball python would live to long in Manitoba, even in the summer time..................... we got weird weather!

I have a hard enough time finding native species rather then foreign ones lol

Ah yes but will it take F/T? LOL. But really wild BPs are becoming comon in FL but Burms are the worse. There was a story lately about Park Rangers just shooting them on site because there is no other choice for them.
Definately not a Canadian problem. One winter west of the rockies takes care of any exotics that escape from captivity in Canada.

I've probably used all my luck on finding her, and she'll only eat live rats with dark fur or something. We'll see, though. :p
