how does everyone here lock a sterilite sweater box? i want to get some better ideas because at the moment, i have the lid put on, and i have two weights on each side and along the sides(where the lid touches the container) i have little clamps holding it together. it works now, but when my brb gets bigger, i dont think she'll have any problems getting out. thanks

Switch to Rubbermaid brand. Better lids. Sterilite has easy to escape lids.

I've been using S-hooks and they work amazing! All that you need is a drill or, even better, a soldering iron to melt the holes through!

Heres a quick step by step.

Melt a hole through the lid and container so that the hook may pass through, but be sure to separate them for a second afterwards if melting so that the two don't stick together!

The the S-hook will go through both holes and secure the lid. What I have done for extra security, so that the hook doesn't fall out, is put a second hole higher up where the hook may re-enter once fully inserted. Heres a couple pics to show the diff between only once through and then doubled back...

Hope that this helps!

PS I prefer rubbermaids over sterilites as the sterilite lids suck IMHO!! Good Luck!

thanks a lot.
i like rubbermaids better too, for the same reason, better, more secure lids. but sterilites are liek running rubbermaid out of business where i am haha. all i see are sterilites and other cheap imitation brands. i saw a few rubbermaids, but the sterilite i got is the bigger than any rubbermaid ive seen

I prefer using the Sterilites myself, although the lids are crappier. Sterilites on the other hand are cheaper and easier to find a constant model number around in stores. With a little fabrication, they work just fine (such as soldering holes for hooks, etc) and even better when used in a rack system (no need for hooks or locks unless your containing venomous species).

True C.m, I would prefer the sterilites when I build my baby racks as they ARE cheaper and more readily available in most stores.

If it's not on a rack then I think that rubbermaids are easier to secure, but it definitely can be done on a sterilite as well.
