View Full Version : Beardie enclosures?
Does anyone have any pics of their Beardie enclosures? I am putting my baby beardie on "layaway" until I get the enclosure just right. I'm setting up a 55 gal tank for my new beardie, will that be ok? Not too big? I plan on feeding him his crix outside the enclosure in something smaller so he can find his food until he gets bigger. I'm going to go with "reptile carpet" for the bottom of the tank, looks nicer than paper towels and no chance of him ingesting substrate. What kind of decorations do you recommend? I have some large rocks that are flat on top and I also have driftwood. I want to make it look nice and give him something to climb on but I'm not sure what is really useful in a beardie cage. Anybody have any pics or suggestions?

I personally don't like carpet substrates...especially when you plan to put rocks & sticks on top of it. You will have to take all that stuff out every time you clean. I suggest that you keep it simple until the beardie is older. Paper towels or newspaper etc.
Rocks & sticks are great and they love to climb around. Make sure that you get a good thermometer and measure the temp right under the basking light.
Don't forget a salad dish. It's important to make sure they always have veggies around.
Good luck and good on ya for setting everything up before bringing the little guy home.
What kind of substrate would you recommend when he gets older?
As far as the temps, yeh, I plan on having them perfect before I get him in there. :D If there are mistakes made I don't want him to bear the consequences of them.

I like to use expanded coconut husk. It comes in a brick form and you expand it by putting it in water. I think it's called Forest Bed or something. It can get a little dusty when dry but it's safe for my beardies, looks pretty good and it's easy to just scoop out the poo.
I don't like sand because I believe it can cause chronic impaction. Some people disagree.
you could put down tiles for now. then it would be easy to clean up the poo, and it would look better than news papers.
Heres a pic of my encloser, just got my guy sunday.
whats not showing is just the sides of tank, u prety much see it all.
