Just finished and moved this new cage for my black pine. It's 44" long, 22" wide, and 18 1/2" tall. The front and top are actually salvaged windows that we bought for about $5 each. The lid is held closed with a latch on either side... there's also a lock in the center just in case I ever have a need to lock it. There are a total of 10 holes for ventilation, 6 on the back and 2 on either side.

I like it. Show the snake too next time.

We don't see to many pine snake pics here.

Good job! I love to recycle and make nice cages from the unexpected too! That one looks really, very nice!

The latches were in my dad's stash of hardware. I believe they were actually salvaged off of some other box at one point. No idea where you could find them to buy, sorry.

OK, what about the vents...where did you get those, and how deep are they, how are they installed, etc?

Are those just floor drain vents, or are they something different? Do they open and close, or are the fins fixed? Thanks

Greg

ps. Nice looking cage.

They're plastic (pvc I believe) louvered vents. They're 3 inches in diameter and about a half inch deep. They're installed just by cutting a rouund hole in the cage, inserting the vent, and adding a screw or two (as you can see in the pic). You should be able to find them at any building supply store.

I believe they're sold as being for ventiliation of wall studs, etc, in buildings. The fins are fixed in place and have plastic 'mesh' between the fins... nice if you're using them with smaller snakes. They don't look to pretty from outside the cage... but the inside is nice.

goto any dollar store and buy those plastic containers for candies.
they use the same latch and you can detatch them and drill new holes.
