Here's the thing. I've been expecting return calls on some job interviews all week, but had nothing on my answering machine, which I thought was strange but not wholly unexpected - these things take time. Thursday night I tried to get on the net and when it wouldn't connect, I figured it's time to call my ISP. Problem: no dialtone. Being rather late at night I figured I'd call from work friday morning and see what was going on.
So I called Bell, and after some talking, found out it wasn't a payment or administrative issue. Technical support said they'd send a truck out.
Interestingly enough, the house next door has been under renovations for the last year or so, but tuesday afternoon I noticed as I made a quick stop home before going back to
work after a doctor's appointment that there were some guys digging in the yard next door doing something or other.
Got home friday and found my copy of the contractor's work report, and it states that "due to line troubles in our underground service" a "temporary service wire" was installed.
After all is said and done, I find it suspicious that after those tools were puttering around in the ground between the houses that I had no phone service for 3 and a half days. Has anyone experienced difficulties like this? I'm madder than hell because potential employers could have been trying to call me all week and been getting a busy signal. I realize that there really isn't anything I can do other than call my interviewers back monday and hope they understand, unless there are some suggestions I haven't considered yet.
Apologies for the rant, but like I said, I'm really mad over this.
