Cuban Anoles?

Found yet another reason to be frustrated by PET COmpanies or pet stores:

Went into Petco today and saw a wierd lizard that looked like a toy dinosaur. It was about 8" long and had a strange looking head. The color was intense green with bright yellow markings along the head and bits on the legs.

I asked what it was and the person working wasn't sure and had to find out. I asked what it ate and they told me that they had no care sheet or info on it yet, but were told that they are not exactly friendly and that an adult could kill a cat. WHAT?!?! Thats all that they know about an animal that they have for sale???

It seems that these stories will never end, too bad...

Anyone keep these by the way or know much about them?

Well I have had a few in over the years and i would say they about the same to keep as a Chameleon. They get to be around 2' But dont really think that they can kill a cat. There temperments are a bit on the NASTY side and they are not something that wants to be touched or handled.
They do have the most intence colors i have seen on most lizards by far. But the best thing about them is that they make nice show herps. in a nice enclosure.

If you are interested in some good info on them i will put up a good care sheet for you as soon as i dig it out.

Cuban Knight Anoles are WAAAY cool! They always look like they have a hangover as well!

I went to Cuba and went herping for them for like a week! They are DAMN fast, let me tell you. And they know EXACTLY when to move. They know that they simply cannot be caught. Very bold too.

They'd be super fun to have in a HUGE naturalistic-type cage. For sure.

Very neat lizards, catch them all the time in miami but as Jeff Favelle said they always know when to move. Acouple of my friends keep many of them in large wooden cages with cypress mulch in the works. Vicous creatures though in the wild. best of luck, jason
