Hey guys!
I just have a simple question on other food for Corns.
I have read many, many books, and none of
them mention other types of food, but they also
don't mention that there are NO other types of food.
Would a corn eat, or rather enjoy something like a large cricket?
I have heard stories about quail eggs, would corns like those?
I am just wondering if anone knows anything on the topic. Obviously, I know that the mice are all he needs, but I am just curious.
Thanx,
Jeremy.
PS here is a little pic for y'all.

All the advice I have heard says to keep their prey consistent. If you want to give them a variety for nutritional value, feed the prey a varied diet.
I have heard that giving snakes other prey (chicks, fish) made for some smelly, runny poo.

He is looking great Jeremy and no doubt enjoys his mice!
Corns, at least some individuals, will take small lizards and may eat eggs or chicks of various bird species. We have fed chicks in the past and some snakes like them, others completely reject them. They do result in a somewhat more fluid stool. We simply used them because they were available.
Corns do not typically feed on insects - the sharp exoskeleton and relatively low nutrient value would likely make them pretty undesirable as prey. Have not heard of corns taking fish although some relatives of gartersnakes that are sold in pet stores as Chinese cornsnakes will feed on fish.
If you want to vary the diet, beyond trying rats vs mice, I think quail are a good idea - don't know how keen corns would be to feed on eggs though.

I'd stick with mice. When I had my first CalKing I tried all kinds of things. He never ate anything ever but the mice. Sometimes by "mixing up" their diet they decide that they only like "certain things" all of a sudden. If that "certain thing" is something that is not readily feesibly available you have now created a problem. If its happy with mice (or rats) & they are always affordably available, why mess with it? I know the answer because like I said I've been there done that too heh heh LOL Chicks definately make for runnier, stinkier poos though LOL Mark

... and corn snake poo is bad enough as it is. Why on EARTH would you want to make it worse?
