Ok everyone, lets see those iggies :)
I can NOT believe how much my Lar has grown. When I got her she was 3yrs old, so I didn't think she'd grow much......I haven't weighed her lately but she sure has put some on as well as grown a couple inches.
Tell me if you can see it in these two pics:

mmmm, to others, no.
to me: depends.
short explanation: she is territorial in her enclosure. She has bit me twice ( fairly severe ) as I placed her food bowl in.
once I get her out of the enclosure, she is good for me. I will have her nose to nose with me, and be confident I won't be hurt.
I will let her roam, but when I approach to pick her up, sometimes she goes defensive ( but does not lash out ). This is how she acts with me.
Would I trust her to let someone else hold her, NO.
Would I let someone else pet her, yes BUT I would be holding her in such position that she can't tailwhip or bite.
She's an adoption, a work in progress. I don't think she'll ever be 100% friendly, but I think there's potential for her to calm emmensely :)

first of all those are awesome iggys, couple questions, are they friendly (generally not talking about specific cases) and what are the size requirements of enclosure?
Well, first off a little bit about Shade, our iguana. She was born exactly one month before our youngest son so that would make her 3 yrs old this past February 4. We actually got to pick her right from the incubator as we fluked out and rescued a gravid female from having to make a move with her owner way up to Northern BC brrrr.... anyways the Girl ended up laying 46 eggs or something and we decided to incubate them to see what happened and low and behold they hatched, so we of course had to keep one, if we had the room I would have kept more as it was hard trying to find GOOD homes for them, so we had to resort to selling to other pet stores, YIKES! Thank god they didn't all hatch, So needless to say she is very familiar with all of us, My youngest and her have completely grown up together and oldest son is 3 years older than both of them. It has totally been amazing to watch this eating machine grow from such a tiny little vibrant green baby! This is Shade and my oldest enjoying the rays, earlier this season.

This one as I said is very friendly but does have the occasional tantrum , but usually only in the sun. I have seen some nasty bites from Iguanas just as Christine had mentiond above. For the most part especially when given natural sun light, they'll all go through territorial or mating season temperments. Obviously the most important would be to get as young as possible and the most interaction as possible and quite often some people will say their igs are like cats.
Anyways as for keeping them I'd say they are very hard as they need HUGE inclosures, huge amounts of heat and UV rays, and huge portions of a variety greens on a daily basis, and to top it all off, vegitarians need cleaning of cage and themselves all too often lol. If given the chance and the optimum requirements they can be quite enjoyable and entertaining, and can make a great pet for the right person. Anyways here's one more shot.http://ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/3839HEMIShade_001-med.jpg
Christine, by the way I'd say the two pics definately show a difference, at least in the belly! Looks much rounder and plumper. Even in the oldest pic, Larry/Lar look great love that VIBRANT green coloring.

Osscar and Shade are both gorgeous.
Dave: I love the pic of Shade and your son. How wonderful to grow up with an iggy and son of the same age. Are they good "friends"?
I don't know if Lar will ever be able to be trusted around my children :( I would love her to be, but, I would not put my kids into any chance of being bit or hurt in any way. I have very high standards set before the kids and Lar interact.
They have touched her. But NO WAY would they be alone with her, or touch her without me holding her, etc. I do not trust her in that sense.
The finger that Lar bit on me, the tip is still sensation deprived but painful deeper down. I could just imagine what she'd do to less tough flesh :(
I have hopes that she'll become friendlier.......but I am well prepared if she's always a me pet. After the last bite, I tried to adopt her out. When I got responses, you know, I couldn't do it. That lil witch has grown on me, and I love her even though she'd love to munch me for lunch sometimes LOL.
Anyways, I guess bottom line, what I wanted to say is your's is a perfect example of how it should be with iggies. It's obvious Shade is well cared for and a family pet. She is beautiful.
and thanks, I am sooooo glad someone else noticed....I thought I saw some weight gain, but it was hard to tell cuz I lost my really old pics.

Hey Adam, actually LOL, they are snowmobile gloves. I bought them off season dirt cheap.....they are lined, and tough suede type on the outside. Saves my arms very much. Lar's nails can make my arms look like Freddy Kruegar struck.

Adam, I don't know about monitor's, but....Lar bites at these gloves and she hasn't even torn them. Personally, I like em. I am considerring making fingers in them, as they are "mitts", just thumb and mitt. So I might make them so my fingers are exposed to give me a little more control, but even now, because of the material they are, she doesn't slide in em.....they do give you some grip. As well, because of how iggy teeth are, I don't think they are a danger of ripping her teeth out.....it is a flat material, so I can't see her teeth ever getting caught in em JMO.
