Ok, I just fed my little blood (ok, not so little, about 3ft long, lol) and first he struck hard, then just let go, so I picked it up and it fell from the tongs, he struck mid air and hung on tight.
He let go:rolleyes:. so Once more I picked it up......here is wher I THINK it gets strange....
He came over and went nose to nose with the rat, almost touching it. Then pulled his head back a little bit (I had the rat around the middle with the tongs) and opened his mouth and just sat there!
So I put the head of the rat in it's mouth and it oh so slowly and gently closed his mouth and began eating!
Now I know I'll be thankfull for such docile eating patterns when he's an adult. But has anyone EVER heard of such, lazyness? lol
Thanks in advance!

LOL... I have a female BCI that will not go near her food unless I dangle it right in front of her nose. My blood python won't strike at food at ALL... I have to leave it in her enclosure, and she does the same thing... noses it for a while, then opens up and eats. No striking, no constricting, nothing. :)

no, he won't eat it himself! I HAVE to put it right in his mouth!!!! That is why I think it's weird.
He has done this every since we gotten him (except the first feeding where he nearly dragged me into his cage, strong little bugger), but after that he refuses to eat unless I put it right in his mouth!

Well I wish I could get a video of it or something. That is why I asked here. Because I've NEVER heard of a snake being so.....(only word I can think of!) lazy. He just litterly wants me to place the head of the rat right in his mouth.
I did get some shots of him eating though. Whenever I can get them devloped and on a disc.
Pink is coming in on his head, and his sides are going to an orangy/red color, but he is still mostly "Blonde" with brown.
And he is growing so fast, when we got him he was MAYBE 1.5-2ft, now he can stretch out his entire cage length, which is about 34 inches.
Well some snakes are very lazy. If its F/T food id just leave it in there to see if he takes it on his own because that is really really lazy. My blood hits everything like a tonne of bricks all the time. I love them for that. I cant believe yours is growing so fast, its good to hear.

Ya, they had him on like one adult mouse ever like 1-2 wks :O . I couldn't believe it. So I gave him a rat, and he hasn't looked back since. :)
So are you callin my snake lazy! lol, j/k.
I would rather have him like that than trying to take my face off!

Mine's pretty easy-going when feeding. Maybe she doesn't sit there with her mouth open like a chick but, she does prefer F/T to F/K...I would imagine that if you left it outside the hidebox at night, your snake will take it ( providing it's hungry)
Must be pretty cool to feed a Blood like that though! I'm planning on getting a male with (hopefully) a more natural feeding habit. I'd like to have one that's a little bit "hellish" to handle. Just for fun!

Thats interesting. When I feed my blood(F/T weaned or small rat), she nails it SOOOOO hard, then she brings it back, coils around it, then just drops it and goes looking around the cage for a minute, then she will come back and nose it for 5 mins, and then begin eating. I guess bloods have MANY different personalities.

guess so. The first time I fed him, he nailed it so hard he almost drug my arm into the cage with him (the rats foot was caught in the tongs).
He actually doesn't do it like a "chick" his bottom jaw is resting on the floor of the cage, and his mouth is just open. lol. I have to manuver the rat so I can get it's head in his mouth. So he's basicly making ME work for him to eat. lol, boy does he have me trained. :) lol
Hera eats wonderfully. If it is dead and in her cage she eats it! LOL, I love how bloods eat. She is currently eating pinky rabbits, Neil had a bunch from still borns so I got them and since the BP's weren't interested figured we would try them with Hera, she also doesnt' strike, but we just put them in her cage and she eats right away.

Yes I am callin it lazy. LOL. All I gotta do is throw it somewhere near him and before it hits the ground he has it and two coils around it.....their speed is unbelievable.

Oh I know how fast they are.......atleast I got an idea, I was going back through the old threads and found a post from (jezabel I think it was) of her blood who DID NOT like to be touched.
if anyone has anymore vids like that, that would be interesting.

my black blood is a hard hitter....it sounds like you dropped a pile of books on the floor when he hits....his whole body slams against the side of the tank....but a previous malaysian that I had was the opposite..I'd dangle the rat over her head and she'd open wide (like a chick) and I'd just drop it in....voila...gondi!:)
