hey ppl.. howz it goin? i think i have a strange lil snake lol... a while back (when i was feedin em) he struck at my tongs instead of the mouse and juss today i was feedin em, he stuck at the side of the mouse.. hes about 6 months old.. ive had em since april 30th. and juss today i was feedin em a mouse and he stuck at it and tagged it on the side.. but instead of tryin to change how the mouse is goin down (head first) he juss started to eat it how he grabbed it ( on its' side ) i got kinda worried because he couldnt fit the mouse into his mouth but he kept tryin.. after about 3 mins of tryin he actually squeezed half the mouse into his mouth. ( but he was eatin it the wrong way ) he was still tryin to swallow the damn thing from the side.. ( so the tail and head where both facin out of his mouth ) i decided to try and take the mouse back out ( since he was takin it in wrong ) after a while of tryin i kinda gave up.. he wouldnt give up tryin to eat the damn mouse.. but i did get the mouse turned around.. so he ate the mouse tail first.. once that started to happen i left em alone for a while to go do some things.. when i came back.. he had it all down.. (kinda confusin.. i no.. hard to explain) but anyways i was juss wonderin if its bad for him to take a mouse tail first?? and also how i could prevent him from tryin to eat the mouse sideways the next time he takes one.. does ur snakes ever try and eat their food from the side first? plz help.. and is it bad for him to take down food backwards? (hes never actually try to eat one sideways or backwards b4) how do i prevent this from now on? ty
A snake swallowing it's food tail or end first can be deadly!!!
Just KIDDING!!! ;)
It's absolutely fine and it happens quite often. Next time, don't even bother trying to take the mouse away or change it's position, the snake WILL figure it out and eventually get it down.
If it's too big to get down the hatch, the snake will "spit" it out and start over. A couple of mine are very slow eaters in that respect. They'll start eating it then spit it out and start over again more than once for one item. Aside from taking forever to actually swallow the food item, nothing else will happen.

hehe I read that and was like what?
One of my corns used to be really odd. it would spend a half hour deciding where to start then still mess it up. My boa almost always attacks the rats on the side. Then constrists for about 20min even though its already dead. I like to dangle the rats about a foot away its ggod fun just make sure there's nothing in its way

We had a corn take down a jumbo adult mouse sideways, and he did it just fine. NEVER try to take the prey item out of the snake's mouth. Like Pixie said, the snake will figure it out. Besides this, they are much more flexible than you think.

Just a word to the wise here. Do you like veternarians? Because you had better get used to spending 100+ bucks every visit if you intend to keep on pulling prey from your boa's mouth. Snakes have these teeth things and if you pull prey out along with a tooth you've got the makings of mouth rot.
