View Full Version : return from vacation
I returned from vacation today after being gone for a week. I rushed to see how my baby boa was doing and I found him soaking in his water bowl and his eyes are hazed over. I think he might be ready to shed but I wasnt sure if soaking in water bowl was normal. I dont see any black specks on him. help,,,is this natural behavior?
snakes often go into water when in shed, the moisture helps ease the shedding. its perfectly normal.
thanks, i was a little worried since ive never seen him in there, should I wait to feed him or go ahead and try?

You should do some research on your boa. there is a wealth of information that you should know. Asking ?'s is good too but you should know the most common things like your snake is soaking and his eye are cloudy, meaning it is in blue and will be shedding in about a week. After the eyes clear it is usually 3 to 5 days and then you will find the shed in the cage and a beautiful snake. Good luck and don't stop reading because there is so much to learn. Jamie

Blueeheeler, first I would like too say that was VERY well said, you suggested research without being rude. I've noticed allot of people having trouble doing that in the forums lately.
Sweet , soaking is very normal. And no I would not bother feeding until he sheds. Some will eat in shed but for a few days wait why risk wasting the food.

Blueheeler, well said. See Sweet, even a guy from north carolina knows what's what.
Seriously though, I question your husbandry techniques if a boa soaking before shed is such a mistifying phenomenon to you. Are you feeding him crickets too?

yeh i agree with you Mugwump.
You'd think with all the imformation we have on the net, people would take time to go read a care sheet.
If you cant ask questions, then why even have a forum? even if the questions may seem trivial. Im sure when you first started in the hobby, you didnt know all the answers.
