View Full Version : Enclosure heating.

I moved my Boa into a new cage yesterday and although I have a heating pad in there and it is quite warm, she's not.

What's the best and cheapest way to add additional heating into the cage, or should I just wait for her to find the heating pad?

She'll find the heat herself when she wants to. If your heat pad is the proper size, she/you will be fine. :)

It's just the average sized heating pad. Actually, it's the only size I've seen available.

I hope she finds it soon.

Well, how big is the cage, how big is the heat pad and how big is the boa?

25 watt light bulb wired right into the enclosure. I use this for all of my larger snakes, and it gets the ambient temp to 78-80 degrees and right under the light, 88-90. Perfect for most snakes that are not from extreme climates. If I need to create humidity, no problem - put the water dish near the light. Evaporation raises the humidity depending on how close the water is to the light. Simple, and effective. :D

Aren't you worried the light will burn the animal? Or that it will wrap around it and bust it off?

Never happened yet. Usually when the snake gets close enough to realize it's hot, they back away. I am going to be building caging around the lights to be on the safe side though. (Just a melamine cage with hardware cloth on the bottom so the light and heat can shine through).

Okay, she found her heating pad, so I'm a little less stressed. I would, however, like to put more light in there for her.

I use human heat pads on rubbermaid tubs only and radient heat panels for later built cages. If I could I would do everything radient heat panel like, its the best thing ever the only thing to be like the sun itself. Costs more upfront but over all say 10 plus years it be worth it.

My 2 cents.
