View Full Version : mold on eggs, can they be saved?
One of the two eggs has white fuzzy mold covering the exposed area with a few green flecks. Eww... can it be saved? Should i seperate the other egg into a different container so it doesn't spread?
Thanx

You can use a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. Wipe it gently and repeat if the mold persists. It does not damage the egg or embryo in any way. You don't even need to seperate the eggs.

Good healthy Leo eggs rarely mould. In some cases there can be problems with calcification of the shell and any "windows" or shell inconsistancies appear to be void of the special ingredient that prohibits mould. This does not necessarily result in embryo death, but is a sign of a weak egg.
You'll know farily soon if the embryo is going to make it, and you can candle the egg using a small penlight, or even better one of the new white Led keychain lights from Canadian Tire. They emit an incredible amout of light, but no heat and can transilluminate an egg without even touching it.
As long as you see red viens, and a pinkish glow, the egg is still alive.
thanks so much, I will try cleaning it tonight and will look at getting that pen light from CT tomorrow.

Get the rectangular flat WHITE LED one in a bubble pack made by Garrity. They are new, and the best little egg candler around! You'll find them with the other flashlights.
The are only 5 bucks and bright as hell. They even come in different colors.
If you can't find them let me know and I'll bring one to the next show for you
