My two Leos...

Hi there ! I was just wandering if you could help me with this one... I just bought 2 Leopard Geckos 5 days ago, one (the male) is Classical and the other (the female) is Albino. Both are in the same enclose, and they seem to like each other... They are still very young, about a month old I would say, and I was wandering if it was bad to let them be toghether since there is a male and a female ? I would also like to have some feedback of personal experiments...

Nope you should never keep a male and a female together unless you are breeding them. If they bred (not gunna happen at this age) and the female was under 6 months old she would most likely die.

it's hard to say like matt said you shouldn't keep them together in case of premature breeding the female would get egg-bound and most likely die,also it's impossible to tell at one month for sure if it is a male and a female,i'd seperate them until you know for sure if it is too males you don't want to end up with a dead gecko

They can easily be kept together for 2 or 3 more months, but after that I would give them their own enclosures to prevent fighting and dominance should they both end up being males. You can reintroduce them at about 11 months or so, as long as both are healthy and are not both males.

All my babies live paried up for 2-3 months, and I've had hundreds. Never had a problem. The only reason it would not be "safe" is if one is outright dominating the other (eating all the food, chasing, biting). Otherwise they are quite fine together for a few months.

You breed them yourself. I to keep my new babies together for a couple of months but with the males I know to keep a closer watch on them. "Dragonlord" does not know the sex and a male might dominate the female if housed at such a young age.

I understand Matt. I have only really had a problem with dominance maybe twice. Funny thing, is that both instances involved the female dominating the male:D Probably cause my females tend to grow faster. I still think he's okay keeping them together for now. Though they will need to be watched.

I haven't had the time to read the other's comments, but in my opinion it is not harmful if the geckos are very young. They will have to spearated within a few months, however, to avoid issues between them. Once mature, if the male is not particularly aggressive he and the female can be reunited if they are approximately the same weight, size, and are otherwise healthy.

What for signs of distress such as eating less, or nothing at all, body language that signals conflict (head lowered, tail raised and waiving, stalking like motions, 'lip-licking'). Good luck with them, and remember to monitor your pets daily.
