A couple of decades ago I was able to buy a couple of melanistic gartersnake from an individual in Canada. I am assuming these snake are protec ted now. If not, is it possible to have these snakes shipped to the U.S? I always thought these snakes were simply amazing.

Scott Felzer has Eastern melanistics still I believe. Last time I checked they were available. Never knew of them to be protected myself...

Garters aren't protected across the nation but only provincialy (sometimes municipaly). That is if you're referring to Canada.

I'm not sure of the exact locality of these garters but the person I got them from lived in Ontario. Thanks

if its ontario, they are not protected. however, i dont think you can sell them. maybe Jeff Hathaway can give us some more info on our native laws regarding the melanistic garters.

I found that Jeff Felzer sells melanistic forms of the eastern garter and the wandering garter. I think he is out of North Carolina. Thanks.
