Hey everyone, I just finally got the 5 foot pothos plants cleaned and put into my skinks cages, they have been in the cage pictured in previous posts for a while just as it was posted, today I decided too take the time too wash down the plants and get them into the cage. They look amazing, unfortunately my camera died and I have no batteries around I’m hoping they don’t devour them tonight but I can here one of them munching away at the back of one. I also put 3 inches of Sphagnum moss covering the bottom of the enclosure. I was using dishes of it, which they often would lay in at night, But because I find they head out of the branches in the evening I decided too cover the whole bottom with it. it looks really good. The "Male" loves the stuff, he’s even ignoring the new plants and plate full of food all he wants too do is dive into the moss, he tunnels around in it, then pops his head p too see where he ended up. They cage looks great, for now, if that little thing doesn’t munch down the 2 full plants then ill have some pics up tomorrow when I get batteries.

It amazes me that these skinks are not more popular, they are amazing animals, and although I’ve heard otherwise they are very active. I would like too know if anybody else has heard one of them "call" I haven’t read anything or heard any mention of them being vocal at all. But today after putting the 3 inches of moss substrate, my "male" scurried down the branch as he always does at this time of day but when he hit the moss rather then the usual hard surface. He stopped looked around for a second let out the most entertaining call and dove into it. It took me a few minutes too figure out who had made the noise, because I didn’t know they were even capable of it.

Sorry for the long post, these guys just never ceases too amaze me.

it's great that you're enjoying them so much, they'll live great lifes!

Only vocalization i ever heard from mine was hissing hahahaha they have quite the attitudes, at least mine did anyways. Avoid being bit, really hurts. Had one on my forearm and it decided to take a chunk out of my bicep!! (yes it hurt bad :P)

They love humid hides. I used a small rubbermaid and screwed a couple to the back of their enclosures. One high, one low, one in the middle to give them a temp gradient. Filled each with moss, kept it moist. They used all of them on different nights, but always had the option to choose a different temperature to hide in. I just drilled a 3 inch diameter hole in the lid of the rubbermaid, and in they went. Just use something to keep the lid on, as they do tend to pop the lids off occasionally...

V.hb, I have 2 hides screwed into the back wall, one high one low, They get use occasionally normally if there is too much commotion in the room for there liking. Otherwise they seem too prefer hanging around in the branches. They can have attitudes; I've been warned of the bite. One of my little guys almost got the side of my face last night. I reaching into the cage getting the plant set up and he Very slowly crawled too the branch above my head about 5" he was moving so carefully I didn’t seem him coming until luckily I caught sight of him out of the corner of my eye as he lunged at my face . They’re ok out of the cage, but if I’m in for any reason other then too place food (which seems too distract them quite well) I have too watch out, VERY protective of their cage. Also of each other, has anybody else had the problem of trying too pick up one and the other comes too it’s defense? That amazed me, not only do they protect themselves, but if I finally get one almost off the branch (which is tricky) the other will come running across the cage too help him out in the fight. They are very intelligent. You can see it in there eyes that they are plotting against you.

Devon...I love your posts! They are so entertaining. And the bit about them plotting against you had me laughing!
I have heard my PTS make a "barking" type of noise. She did it for about a week when I very first moved her into her new cage, and when I would go to pick her up, or moved my hand around inside her enclosure.
Someone very familiar with PTS told me that this is a common vocalization for PTS when they are nervous or stressed. She probably was stressed due to the move to a new environment, and then upset by me trying to move her around, or handle her before she was comfortable in it yet.
She hasn't made that noise since though, and she's been in her "new" enclosure for a year now.

So, maybe your guy was just letting out a little grunt to let the others know there were some changes in their home?
