and here's a belly shot showing the deepest yellow I've seen in a king.

That belly looks like the yellow on the spilotes. Can you share any info on what features indicate the two parent species that were determined to contribute to the intergrade? Are these intergrades common in wild populations? in that area?

Mary, I'm still getting info on him. The "normal" look of the splendida would have a sort of black "sock-head" look, whereas the speckled does not. More on him later.
