View Full Version : Pics of the week end (no Ts!)
Well, here are a few bug pics I took over the week end...
First is the cicada invasion in the Cincinnati, Ohio region...
Close up of the same animal... taken in Kentucky (in Mamoth Cave Park)...
Here are some funny buggers... cave crickets... taken inside Mamoth Cave (Kentucky)...
Those first ones are taken with infra-red because it is almost complete darkness down there...
A close up of the same animal... gotta love the legs on that cricket...
This picture is taken with another option on my camera combined with the flash, making it possible to capture colors in almost complete darknest... I was surprised of the results... I had a close up also, but it turned out blurry...

Nice pics Martin!
Mammoth Caves is a great place to visit, I have really enjoyed myself the few times I have been there.
Last time I was there, I found a Copperhead and a 5-lined Skink by the food area (there's a restaurant and a gift shoppe there, it was under the foot-bridge that I found them).
Here are some pics from the "Frozen Niagara" cave route (300 feet underground I believe):

He he, nice to see you have been there also!
Yes you are right, it is about 300 feet under ground... the grand avenue tour it is called... 4 miles hike for about 4h30minutes under ground... pretty neet, I liked it a lot...
Next time I am going, I am going for the Wild Cave tour... 6 hours of crawling into tight tunnels and climbing!
There was a rattle snake, but I missed it, I wish I could have taken a pic of it...
Take care
Martin

Me too! I think there's a lesson that you must take before that tour, but I think it would be awesome. Spelunking is fun! Gotta love that word.
Cheers,
Ryan the Spelunker
Those cave crickets are unreal!!! A real nightmare for me!
I have a hard time with regular crix, thank god I don't have to deal with those! LOL
Cool pics :)

And yet another spider, with her eggsac...
And last two of my favourites...
It is too bad I have to lower the quality in order to post on that forum, because that picture is really stunning at better resolution...

The dragonfly is really really nice!!
That would make an excellent desktop page...
I like most of the bugs pictured, except ants!! Ants scare me, they are ugly, ugly! And the fly. Ewww.
Hmmm, I liked the cave cricket. It looked like a cartoon cricket!
Snails are cool. They are the first 'pet' I ever had, actually. My mom tells this story that when I was little, I'd bring home things, and she never let me keep them...so one day, she opened my sock drawer to put away some clothes, and it was full of snails! :)
And one story that I DO remember...
I was about 8 years old, and found some hatching nests of caterpillars in a field. They were so cute I wanted them, so I brought handfuls of them home. I knew I couldn't keep bugs in the house, so I put them in the backyard to play with them...and they started climbing the back of the house. My mom came home to see an undulating wall of fuzzies and screamed.
She hosed them all off and yelled at me while I cried because they were drowning. Awwww...I learned to leave them where I found them...
Much like you are doing, Martin! Thanks for the pics.
