My femalle western hognose finally laid her eggs!
Unfortunatly, I had many problems with my male, he hasn't been cooled and he is currently being force fed...
That probably explains why I had 3 slugs...
On the other side, I have 8 eggs that look great! Not bad for a first year!

Congrats on the eggs! I have to ask about the male though. Why is he being force fed? Very few of my Colubrid males have eaten more than a few meals since brumation & some have only eaten 2 or 3 times in literally 6 months. I find that when its breeding season whether they are being bred or not more than 1/2 my males will not even look at food. Most ate once or twice after cooling & that was it. Same thing every year. I'm not saying this is the case with your Hog, but it may be something to consider (not just yourself but others as well). I've seen young Hogs go for months before without & with no ill effects. Force feeding should be a last resort thing & should only be done to "save" the animal if it is showing signs of suffering from the lack of feeding. Anyhow enough rant & congrats again. Being in Alberta I can't breed Western Hogs & yes I'm envious of you folks that can DOH! Good Luck with incubation. Mark

Unfortunatly, my male hognose has always been a very picky eater. He is less than half the size of my femalle but he's the same age. Since I had him, he has never eaten too well. He use to eat regularly, than he started eaten each two weeks, than each three weeks...and now...he might accept a meal each 1month and a half...The poor guy is very nervous and he is geting extreamly thin. I was expecting him to die a while ago...but he seems to be tough. Force feeding him is neither fun for him or for me....but he has to eat. I WAS ALMOST SUPRISED HE STILL HAD SPERM!
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL THESE NICE MESSAGES, I'LL HAVE PICKS OF THEM HACHING FOR SURE! :D

How can you say if your snake is a male are a female?

Western hognoses are definitly very easy to sex. The difference in size, between the size of the tail of a female and the size of the tale of a male is usually very big! Males usually have a much bigger(longer) tail than females. The "visual technic" to sex a snake works well with this specie. Of course, if you are not convinced, you can always probe them.
By the way, my male ate a fuzzy last week! lol
