Xanthic????

First of all does anyone have The Leopard Gecko Manual? its purple by Philippe....something and Brian Viets+ Ron Tremper and Roger something? Ok well if you do look on page 64 you'll see a photo titled Xanthic leopard gecko. I have a male and a female.....recently found out one was a male...... But they look exactly like this guy/ girl except without the faint black spots...I'll try to get pictures. I always thought they were Super Hypo Tangerine, they have no spots could somone help me???

Something important to realize is that there are frequently two terms for any given "morph"

There is the technical term for what is occuring with regards to the pigment production and density or direct statements about pattern.

Then there is the snappy designer name that was tacked on to increase sales.

Some morphs have one or the other, some have both.

There are lots of xanthic leopard geckos, all xanthic means is a superabundance of xanthin and/or xanthophores. The term, by itself, doesn't negate other pigments from being produced though and the yellow color is frequently overpowered by the darker spotting/striping.

And... De Vosjolie didn't write anything meaningful for that book or any other. He's a self important plagarizing sniveling little frenchman who has attached himself like some kind of endoparasite to worthwhile herpetologists for decades now, stealing credit and performing shameless acts of self promotion based upon lies. It's a decent book, but it is a decent book through the efforts of the other individuals who are all given lesser billing on the cover.

So they are xanthic and something else or ? Im really confused

I'd say the one in the picture would now be classed as hypo golden (or possibly hypo high yellow). The colour isn't tangerine, but it is hypo. For general marketing purposes, the term 'hypo' is more appealing than xanthic which is a more 'scientific' term.

Thanks Hilde for the "dummed down" version..... some of us don't understand the technical mumbojumbo, espicially when it's mixed in with someone's personal political opinions(which had nothing to do with the question)

They weren't "mixed in" they had their own paragraph.

Basically though, as was said... there are technical terms for what the pigments are doing, then snazzy catchy marketing terms to increase sales. Most morphs can be described in numerous different ways depending on how one approaches it.
