View Full Version : Skinny leo
3 Weeks ago, I got 3 new leo's, one male about 5 years old, 9 inches long, 2x proven breeder, 10 month old female normal, and an adult female patternless. Both females are doing well and fattening up nicely, but my male seems to be having some problems lately. When I got him, he was feeding perfectly, and vigourously. When I acquired him, he seemed very skinny, so I thought well I'll just fatten him up. Well, he regurged some waxies about a week ago, and now won't eat. I separated him form the patternless female I had him in with, and now he still doesn't seem to want to eat. He has a bowl full of mealies, I've tried supers, silkies, butters, crix, you name it I've tried it, but he just doesn't seem interested anymore. Though I saw him eat ONE mealie while he was with the female. Temps are around 87-88 warm side, and 75-79 cool side. He also has a humid hide and two other separate hides. And he's REAL skinny, his tail is just so damn skinny, it's crazy. Any advice?
Get him to a vet, I am in a similar situation myself. It's important to get him tested fro parasites and procede from there. Good luck with your leo, please keep us updated!

As samba said you should go to the vet to get a fecal exam done. Make sure you take in a fresh fecal (no older than 24 hours and not refridgerated).
"IF" he comes back positive you should tell the vet you housed him with another leo, because that leo may have gotten the parasite and needs to be dewormed. Don't try the shotgun approch make sure you have him tested because different parasites require different medications, and if you give the wrong meds it may cause it to be worse.

Update: Last night he feasted on some mealworms, and a couple nights ago, I witnissed him breed one of my females. I guess all he needed was some lovin!

Let me get this strait you have a skinny male that has not been eating well, then all of a sudden one night he eats and you let him breed???
When you aquire a new herp you should have him/her in quarentine for at least 30 days. Then from there before you introduce them to any more herps you should get a fecal done to ensure no parasites. Even worse you have a skinny male that it was suggested to you to get a fecal done and you ignored that advice and put him with a female to breed anyway.
Please for the sake of your leos seperate them into thier own enclosures and get a fecal done before reintroducing or even attempt at breeding them...
